Winners and Losers

Winners and Losers
By Dennis Huebshman

See if you can identify with any of these…

-Always picked last for any team.

-Just when you get up to bat – game over!

-Your turn in line at store to check-out – checker puts up lane closed sign and you have to go to end of line at next register.

-Or, you get into a line with only one person in it, and they end up with problems that hold you up.

Does this give you a feeling of being a “non-winner”? Rejoice, with Jesus we’re all winners!

Even though many of us today are very disappointed by professional sports and some of the Olympian antics, this does not begin to compare to being on Jesus’ team. Whether you’re the President or a homeless person, it doesn’t matter to GOD. If you’re on Jesus’ team, you’ve won the World Series / Super Bowl / March Madness and all the rest all at once!

One example is the Rich Man and Lazarus. (Luke 16: 19-31). The rich man had it all here and was probably envied by many – many people. Just about anything he wanted, he had. Lazarus on the other hand had nothing. He had to beg for his daily survival. Apparently, Lazarus accepted God and Jesus, and when he left this earth he ended up with Paradise. The rich man who had it all ended up in misery. Who was the real winner?

(Note: I believe Jesus was talking about real people here. Of all his parables, this is the only one that has a name in it. We’ll find out eventually if this is right.)

Getting back to the sports analogy, Our Team Captain (Jesus) took the field for us and said to “Follow Me” if you want to be a winner! Thing to remember, He took the “hits” for us, and we scored the goal of eternal life.

John 14:6 tells us He said, “I am the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father but by me.”

1 John 5:12 tells us “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

What this says is by accepting Jesus, our Sin-debt-bill reads Paid In Full! No losers here – just winners no matter who we are!

Romans 8:1 says there is therefore no condemnation in those who are in Christ Jesus. Jesus came to save the lost – which is everyone no matter what their status is here on Earth! Our Team Captain shed His life’s blood to pay our sin-ransom, and insure we have first-class accommodations in our eternal home. Imagine what we would have to do if Jesus didn’t come to earth and pay for our pardon. Heaven would be empty except for the Trinity and the Angels that didn’t fall with satan.

Getting down to the facts:

John 8:32 says You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.

John 8:36 says If the Son therefore sets you free, you are free indeed.

The world thinks all this is foolishness. This is evident as how life is today. Have you noticed how almost every day GOD is being removed. Religions are being compromised by “new-age” thinking. This is just what was prophesied for the latter days. Right is wrong, and wrong is right. (Isaiah 5:20)

To the saved, we see the troubling times and against the so-called normal, are filled with Hope and Joy that our time here is drawing short. Jesus never said this life would be a cake-walk. Times are troubling and hard, but for those who endure to the end He promises a home with Him. He never said we wouldn’t have issues or tribulations, but that we would not go through the Wrath. This is promised in several places.

1 Corinthians 1:25-31 says:

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (26) For consider your calling, brothers: not many were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many of noble birth. (27) But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. (28) God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are. (29) so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. (30) And because of Him, you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, (31) so that as it is written “Let the one who boasts – boast in the Lord.

Time is drawing short. Christianity is being attacked from all sides. Many Churches are becoming social clubs with worship an after-thought. After the Rapture, many will not see much change in their attendance. My hope is that when Jesus calls, ALL who are reading this will be taken to Him.

If you’ve been thinking at all about spending eternity with Jesus, what must happen for you to make the move? Are you almost persuaded? Almost doesn’t get it. You don’t have to pay for it; you can’t earn it – it’s Free! My biggest question is do you know for sure you’ll be here next week or even tomorrow? Satan’s biggest lie is you have all the time to do this later. Hell will have a lot of souls that thought they had more time. Why not stop Satan in his tracks and tell Jesus you need Him as your Savior today!

Would you like to hear a wonderful Heavenly sound? Luke 15:7 says the angels rejoice at the repentance of just one sinner. How about we really get them rejoicing and shouting! Accept Jesus as your Savior and insure you have a home with Him forever!
