Bible Study
By Dennis Huebshman

Just about everybody has heard about a “round-2-it”, which is a common phrase for “second Tuesday; third week; etc”. During my pre-40 years, I used to say I needed to start reading the word of the Lord, but just didn’t make the time to do so, or “get around 2 it”. After all, I “occasionally” went to different church services, and the preaching told me everything I needed – right? No “pastor” would purposely get up there and “twist” God’s word – would they? (emphasis mine)

When I hit 40, I had several “prayer warriors” that had been holding me up to the Father, asking Him to touch my soul and show me I had a real need. I found out about the “warriors” later, who have since gone to be with Jesus. Today, my wife and I are returning this blessing by holding all of our loved ones up to the Father, asking for guidance and protection for them from the evil one. Our prayers are getting even more pressing as the conditions of this world tells us we are “in the season” Jesus spoke of; telling us He’s about to return. All the signs He gave us are here; all the attitudes Paul told us about are here; and the antichrists and false prophets are abounding as John told us they would be.

Some may say it’s always been this way, and to a degree, they are correct. However, the difference is that now ALL, not just some, of these issues are here, and we could see Jesus any day now.

Once I got into reading scripture for myself, I found out just how ignorant I had been all those years about the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I began to read using a King James Version (KJV), and committed myself to at least one chapter every day. I also found that reading at about the same time each day was a benefit. I started with Genesis 1:1 and went all the way through Revelation 22:21, which took just about a year. I found that after the first week, I had developed a “habit” of reading regularly. After the first month, it became a “lifestyle”, and I find now if I miss even one day, I feel something is missing.

After the KJV, I got a New King James Version (NKJV) and read through it. The messages became a bit clearer with the more modern language. Next was a New American Standard Bible (NASB), followed by the English Standard Version (ESV). That’s the one I go to every morning to this very day. All of these are translated from the original texts, and I am comfortable with any of them. By the way, it took just about a year to read each version just as with the KJV, so it wasn’t an overnight venture.

It should be noted, there are some so-called “bibles” which have gone “gender-neutral”, and some have altered their texts to fit false prophet messages. As John said, “By this you know the Spirit of God; every spirit that confesses Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, is from God, (3) and every spirit that does not confess Jesus, is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist which you heard was coming, and now is in the world already.” (1 John 4:23) The ones who are publishing these false works, and those presenting them as truth will fall under the warnings given in Revelation 22:18-19. It won’t be a very good time for them at the Great White Throne Judgment as given in Revelation 20:11-15

One thing I have found that helps me; I pray just before doing my readings, that the Holy Spirit will open my mind to what is being said to me in the passages. When I first started doing this, messages began to form clearer patterns in my mind. I have also discovered some passages take on more meaning each time I see them. The Holy Spirit knows we can never totally understand all of God’s word, but He will enlighten us more as He deems we are ready.

One example; I’ve made my life verse John 14:6. “Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by Me.” I read this passage several times, but it didn’t “sink in” right away that this was the “straight and narrow way” Jesus spoke of in Matthew 7:13-14. Everything that I had heard earlier about there being “many ways to heaven”; “All religions are the same and worship the same god”; “Jesus was a good prophet, but not the actual Son of God, and definitely wasn’t God Himself”; went straight out the window. My regular study habit with the Bible paid off.

I found out that Acts 4:12 is a “sister” verse to this that says there’s no other name under Heaven by which we can be saved. John 10:30 also tells us, “I and the Father are One.”, which Jesus is plainly telling everyone He is God – part of the Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The church I grew up in – and I will not mention the denomination – did not speak of end-times; Rapture; or Israel still having a covenant with the Father through Abraham. The church was amillennial which never preached about the 1000-year reign of Jesus on this earth after the 7-year Tribulation. This church preached that we must be water-baptized or face Hell, and we have to do works to gain our salvation. Back then, basically through my teen years, I took everything the pastor said as “gospel”, and did no real reading for myself.

Today, if I hear a pastor -any pastor- say, “The Bible says…”, I will definitely look it up for myself, even if it’s a verse I have seen before. Some will take verses and use them out of context to convey a false message. No one would know this if they don’t read for themselves, and check the context of how the verse is used in the Bible. In any messages I give to be posted, and include verses with them, I have no problem with anyone checking to make sure I am accurate. I have made “typos” in the past as I am human, and would never purposely post anything false. James 3:1 strongly influences my feelings on this. “Not many of you should become teachers (preachers), my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.” Some prominent mega-church “pastors” have forgotten this, or they conveniently by-pass it.

By reading the Bible for ourselves, and doing so regularly, we can see the world in a totally different light. For example, Ezekiel 38 tells of a war that will take place against Israel, where a coalition of certain countries will be formed for the attack. For this to happen, Israel had to again be a nation, which took place May 14, 1948, after not being a nation for over 2000 years. The main three countries in this coalition are listed as Russia, Iran and Turkey. They have formed a coalition over the past few years which has never happened before. Events are rapidly leading to this prophecy’s fulfillment, and our Heavenly Father is directing all the events to set a “hook” in them as given in Ezekiel 38:4.

Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21 gives us Jesus’ teaching about the times of the end. Much of it is directed at the 7-year Tribulation, but there are some statements that would lead to events just prior to it. In 2 Timothy 3, Paul tells about the attitudes that will be here at the end of the age. Paul also tells of an event in 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, that will take place before the Tribulation. It will be the “taking up” of believers to meet Jesus “in the air” and in “the twinkling of an eye”. This describes the “Rapture” and will take place to keep God’s promise to all believers to keep us “from the wrath”.

None of this would make any sense if someone did not study God’s word for themselves. Most churches today are avoiding end-time or end of age messages for fear of driving people away. Instead, they’re giving “feel-good” sermons so people will want to keep coming, and keep the collection plates full. Stage productions and heart-thumping music designed to entertain, not enlighten, and giving the impression that everyone has all the time in the world to do whatever they “feel” is right.

Feeling good, without any thought of Jesus being our Salvation is a waste of time, and satan loves this. It’s all playing into his plans for the take-over by the final antichrist, who will rule for the 7-year Tribulation period; to the degree that God will allow.

Through study, John 10 will come to light where Jesus tells the reason He came, and that His gift that He will willingly give will be for everyone , Jew and Gentile alike, who will accept Him. John 14 tells us Jesus Himself will prepare a Home for all who accept Him, and He’s the only way to the Father.

Romans 10:9-13 gives us the steps to follow to have Jesus come into our lives and be our Savior. Joel 2:32, Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13 all say that “All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

To reject the Savior, either purposely or through ignorance, will mean separation from Him forever in the Lake of Fire – Hell. There is only one choice – Jesus and eternal life, or satan and eternal punishment. No third option is available

Each person must make a decision for themselves. Prayer warriors can hold us up to the Father, but it’s up to each person to accept Jesus for their eternal Salvation.

Two things; now would not be too soon to call on Jesus to be your Savior. Second, now would also be a good time to get into God’s word regularly. If you’re just starting out, I would recommend the book of John first followed by Romans. After that Matthew through Revelation, and then Genesis through Revelation – if there’s still time. It’s not an overnight thing, but well worth the effort.

Call today, Jesus could be here for all true believers at any minute.

Ahavah Olan! – Love everlasting!
