The Obama Legacy: Unraveling a Legacy
By Nathan Jones
Will America ever recover from President Obama’s immoral legacy?
This question was asked of Bill Koenig on our television program Christ in Prophecy. Bill has been a White House Correspondent for the last fifteen years. He is president of a news website called World Watch Daily, and he publishes a weekly report called “Koenig’s Eye View from the White House.” Bill is also the author of a telling book titled Revealed: Obama’s Legacy.
In 2008, while running for the presidency, Barack Obama promised changed. After he was elected, he delivered on that promise big time, and in fact, far beyond anything most people could have imaged. President Obama left a legacy, one that can be evaluated from a biblical perspective.[Note: Bill’s answer below has been edited slightly for grammar and clarity.]
Unraveling a Legacy
Bill Koenig: We are witnessing the byproduct of Obama’s legacy right now as President Trump attempts to put his administration together. When it came to cementing his cabinet positions together, leaks were pouring out of our intelligence offices in the State Department. Obama has got a lot of people still in place in positions of power. The process of replacing them has been very slow, and some government positions are lifers. Shaking the tree loose of Obama’s minions is going to be one of President Trump’s number one challenges.
The other difficulty lies on the moral front. I’ve talked to other evangelical leaders on this, and they agree it’s very difficult to take turf back, like for example the elimination of “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” Can you really get that back? How does a society reverse same-sex marriage? Just say that you are going to take people’s marriages away!
Trump is trying to do something about the transgender rights legislation that is attempting to force men into women’s bathrooms. Trump made an executive order dealing with that hot button.
Obama’s regulations that have been put in place over the last eight years are extremely difficult to unravel. Everything has to be challenged in court.
And then, the courts are fielding challenges to everything President Trump has been trying to accomplish. A good example of something somewhat innocent is Trump’s immigration travel ban. Trump wished to restrict travel to the US from seven Islamic countries, countries known for producing terrorists, out of over fifty Islamic nations out there, but the Media shrilled that Trump was acting as an islamophobic and liberal judges were quick to block his travel ban as unconstitutional. The Constitution grants the power to the President to defend the nation, but when President Trumped tried to use that power, he was immediately stricken with 25 lawsuits. Crazy, since every other president in the recent past has issued a travel ban. The ACLU even raised $25 million to debate the travel ban.
The legislation that has been put in place is very difficult to undo. The executive orders can be reversed, but there’s still a lot of damage done, whether it is the failing ObamaCare that’s not working and Congress can’t seem to repeal, to whether the immoral LGBT agenda eventually loses its steam should public opinion swing differently. Obama forced his will on education. He forced his will on corporate America. Our military is so depleted right now that experts estimate it is going to take three, maybe even ten years, to replenish the military that’s currently left in disarray. On and on and on, the Obama legacy has become ingrained into our national identity like cancerous cells.
President Trump has promised he is going to “drain the swamp” of Washington D.C., but when you start trying to get rid of bureaucrats, well that’s almost impossible. Like ticks, they’re deeply entrenched and protected by civil service laws.
The Mainstream Media at War
Is there any hope for the Washington Press Corp?
Bill Koenig: The Washington Press Corp remains about 85-90% liberal. They are not going to give up their turf without a fight. The Mainstream Media is going to do everything in its power to derail Trump’s success. The Media is going to use everything it can to make sure a Republican is not successful.
I actually predicted this happening two weeks before the election. I said if Trump is elected there will be a turf war between the Media and Trump beyond anything we’ve ever imagined or ever seen.
The Media is particularly galled over the fact that President Trump simply goes around them with Twitter. The Press Corp see themselves as very important people, at least in their own minds. They’re legends in their own minds, so to speak. The Media was real tough on George W. Bush, but we haven’t seen anything like this. It’s a real brawl, a real turf war, and the Media has long been entrenched. They’ve been entrenched in the courts. They’ve been entrenched in some of the legislature.
Even though the Democratic Party has lost almost a thousand seats throughout the country during Obama’s time, President Obama left in the Liberal’s eyes like he was successful. Even in Obama’s own eyes he left as a success. Incredible!
As challenging as the last eight years have been under the Obama Administration, the Obama legacy has left the United States facing one of its most challenging times.
