House Dems Demand End to Tax Exempt Status for Freedom Center Over ISIS Attack
By Daniel Greenfield

House Democrats continued their war on the First Amendment with a Ways and Means Committee hearing titled, “HOW THE TAX CODE SUBSIDIZES HATE.”

The goal was to call for stripping tax exempt status from organizations that had been deemed hate groups. Who had deemed as such? Who knows. The hearing materials don’t have a list of groups, but they appear to match groups listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The SPLC, whose hate map had caused at least one terrorist attack on the Family Research Council, whose leadership was forced to resign in disgrace over allegations of racism and sexual harassment, would be the arbiter of deciding which non-profit groups deserve tax exempt status.

While no list is available, the House Ways and Means committee claimed that over 60 hate groups had tax exempt status. The Examiner’s Nihal Krishan has linked to the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s list of 55 groups which includes the Freedom Center. The three groups listed by the Committee on its Twitter feed all appear on the Chronicle’s list. As does the Freedom Center and Jihad Watch.

One of the groups tweeted by the Committee, the American Family Association was denounced as a hate group by Democrats for saying that “homosexuality is a poor and dangerous choice.”

If that makes you a hate group, then virtually every traditional Christian church and Jewish synagogue would lose tax exempt status.

The House Ways and Means Committee is proposing to pull the tax exempt status of the Catholic Church, LDS, Orthodox Judaism, etc…

The hearing was fundamentally deceptive and dishonest.

The first witness was Brandon Wolf, who had been shot in the Islamic terrorist attack on the Pulse nightclub by a terrorist who pledged allegiance to ISIS.

Does ISIS have tax exempt status?

The Pulse shooting was not caused by hate groups. Rather it was caused by the dismissal of warnings about Islamic terrorism from groups like the David Horowitz Freedom Center and Jihad Watch which might have prevented the attack on the gay nightclub.

“Today the Ways and Means Committee conducted a hearing on How the Tax Code Subsidizes Hate. “It is important for us to consider how our policies can help reduce hate and violence through any vehicle – any mechanism, any apparatus, any way that we possibly can,” Rep. Danny K. Davis tweeted.

Rep. Danny K. Davis has praised Nation of Islam hate group leader Louis Farrakhan and described the bigot who had praised Hitler, as an “outstanding human being.”

That’s actual bigotry.
