Elon Musk Plans to Pull Tesla Factory Out of California

Elon Musk Plans to Pull Tesla Factory Out of California
By Lloyd Billingsley

“Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately. If we even retain Fremont manufacturing activity at all, it will be depend on how Tesla is treated in the future. Tesla is the last carmaker left in CA.”

That was a May 9 tweet from Elon Musk, who manufactures Tesla automobiles in California. Musk wanted to reopen his factory but an “unelected and ignorant” official in Alameda County blocked the move. So Musk sued the county and announced plans to pull his car plant out of California. Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, San Diego Democrat, promptly tweeted “**** Elon Musk,” which clarified a key issue in the Golden State.

Musk employs more than 10,000 people at his state-of-the-art Tesla factory in Fremont, and generates more than 50,000 jobs statewide. In fiscal year 2017 alone, Tesla stimulated $5.5 billion in sales and $4.1 billion in direct spending. The Democrat’s dismissal of such a productive entrepreneur confirms hostility for all California’s workers and their families. That was on display long before the coronavirus showed up from China.

Gonzalez is the author of Assembly Bill 5, a frontal assault on independent contractors, including musicians and freelance writers, now limited to 35 submissions per publication per year. The repressive measure harms the ability of California workers to earn a living, and in late January hundreds of workers held a protest at the state capitol. Newsom signed AB 5, now being challenged in court, and has declined to use emergency powers to suspend it. The measure has sparked protests at the state capitol but such demonstrations aren’t happening now.

On May 1, thousands of protesters found the capitol ringed with steel barriers, and guarded by black-clad CHP officers in full riot gear. Newsom’s staatspolizei made no arrests but the protesters decried the infringement of their free-speech rights, and federal judge John Mendez, an appointee of George W. Bush, sided with the cops and the governor. Judge Mendez has also ruled that Gov. Newsom’s ban on church gatherings is a valid exercise of emergency police powers and not a violation of constitutional rights.

Newsom’s stay-at-home order bans “all gatherings” of any size in any “indoor or outdoor space,” and “applies to all non-essential professional, social, and community gatherings regardless of their sponsor,” all “until further notice.” Back in March, when he issued the order, Newsom said “I want to thank Speaker Nancy Pelosi. We had a very long conversation today. Talk about meeting the moment. We are so blessed to have her leadership in California.”

Nancy Pelosi, Newsom’s one-time aunt by marriage, been touting mail-in ballots for every registered voter. True to form, on May 8, Newsom ordered mail-in ballots for every registered voter in advance of the November 3 election. The recipients would include at least one million illegals, automatically registered to vote by the DMV when they get a driver’s license. Secretary of State Alex Padilla isn’t saying how many illegals actually voted in 2016 and 2018.

Speaker Pelosi seeks guaranteed federal money for illegals and during the pandemic, Gov. Newsom, wants to spend $79.8 million U.S. taxpayer dollars on foreign nationals illegally present in California. His first budget provided $98 million for illegals’ health care, all paid by U.S. taxpayers, with zero compensation from the foreign nationals’ own governments.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned against reopening the country too early, The Hill reported on April 16, “saying the public health threat posed by the deadly coronavirus is a greater evil than the current economic hardship facing businesses and workers nationwide.” In similar style, Newsom has taken a hard line on the lockdown, and last week said live-audience sporting events would be unlikely for a minimum of 12 to 18 months, “until we have immunity, until we have a vaccine.”

That delay will be of interest to the Los Angeles Lakers, San Francisco 49ers, and other professional teams. The delay will also add to the nearly four million Californians who applied for unemployment by May 1. For their part, American workers might wonder if the governor cares about their plight. Gavin Newsom is handing $1 billion to a Chinese company to provide more than 200 million masks, for a state of some 40 million people. The governor has refused to provide details of the deal, even to fellow Democrats.

As with the country, the coronavirus and COVID-19 cases not evenly distributed in California. Some counties are pushing to reopen but Gov. Newsom is hardly flashing the green light. Blocked from reopening the Tesla factory, Elon Musk announces plans to move the operation to Nevada or Texas. “**** Elon Musk,” responds Lorena Gonzalez, the Democrats’ la pasionaria. As for Gavin Newsom, he grows more autocratic by the day.

While California workers struggle to get their lives back, Gov. Newsom blocks peaceful protesters from exercising their constitutional rights at the state capitol. Newsom ramps up spending on illegals, empowers voter fraud, and strives to delay any economic recovery, at least before the November election.

If workers interpret all that as “**** the American people” it would be hard to blame them. Remember, the governor is tight with Nancy Pelosi, and as he said, “we are so blessed to have her leadership in California.”
