Wildfires in Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA)

The fires are much, much smaller than the huge ones in California, Canada, etc.
Good reminder if traveling anywhere for camping, hiking, etc. to check for access and site closures/restrictions before you go.

Closures In Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Due To Wildfires​

"MINNESOTA (WCCO) – Multiple wildfires have started inside Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in northern Minnesota leading to closures within the region.
According to the U.S. Forest Service four separate fires are burning throughout the BWCA wilderness and west Superior National Forest. Fires named Delta and Astray were reported on July 7 and two additional fires named Picketts and Hassel were reported on July 8.
According to the USFS the fires range in size from 62 acres to one-tenth of an acre, the largest being Delta. All the fires are located near Ely and are presumed to be started by lightning."

Dear God, please help the firefighters bring the fires under control quickly, and protect the water, habitats, and wildlife

The Quetico fire in Ontario is also threatening Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Parts of parks and forests in Minnesota and Ontario are closed and campers and hikers are being contacted to leave threatened areas. Those with upcoming reservations are being contacted and refunds issued.
