"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be the righteousness of God in him." 2 Cor 5:21. See also Romans 4:1-5, There are more passages that show that our good works and not sinning do not contribute to our salvation because our works are flawed and are as filthy rags, Isaiah 64:6. When we trusted in Christ alone for our salvation His perfect righteousness was imputed to us, credited to us, and we are clothed in it. God sees his only Son in us and accepts us because of this. Our goods works will be rewarded at the judgement seat of Christ, but do not factor in to counting in our salvation. Again, we are saved by grace alone thru faith in Christ alone, plus nothing else.
