Why Should We Believe the Bible?
By Mike Gendron

Not too long ago this question was only being asked by non-Christians. Today, the question is also being asked by professing Christians who are caught up in postmodernism. They say the Bible cannot be the objective truth because truth is subjective. Everyone is entitled to their own truth. Skeptics say truth can no longer be known with certainty. How would you respond to these assertions? Or how would you respond to someone who chooses to believe their religious teachings instead of the Bible?

If there is evidence that the Bible is indeed God’s inspired, inerrant Word, then we have a book that we can trust – a book that can guide us through life and prepare us for eternity. Let us consider reasons why the Bible is the most unique book ever written and why we can trust it with absolute assurance!

Its Divine Origin

“All Scripture is inspired by God.” The human authors spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21). No other religious book makes this claim.

Its Prophecy of Future Events

When the Bible was written, 30% of it predicted future events concerning the Messiah, Israel, other nations and cities. Currently 2000 of these 2500 prophecies have been fulfilled with precise accuracy. This is clear evidence that the Bible was inspired by a sovereign God who controls all things and knows the end from the beginning. The true God gave us prophecy so that we may know and believe Him. Before Him no god was formed, nor will there be one after Him. Apart from Him there is no Savior (Isaiah 43:8-11). No other religious book dares to predict the future because their gods cannot control future events.

Its Unity and Harmony

God commissioned 40 different authors from all walks of life, over 1,500 years, on 3 continents, to write the 66 books of the Bible. All of them were united in harmony to reveal a complex drama about God’s redemption of man through the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Its Transforming Influence and Popularity

The Bible is the most circulated book in history and no other book has impacted society and culture so dramatically. Countless lives have been radically changed by the power of God’s Word.

Its Reliability of Transmission

Entire manuscripts of Isaiah, Deuteronomy and Psalms that were copied over 2000 years ago were found in a cave near the Dead Sea in 1948. They matched almost perfectly the copies we have today.

Its Indestructibility

The Bible has withstood intense scrutiny by thousands of skeptics and survived continuous attacks by emperors, kings, and dictators. They all failed in their attempts to destroy its message.

Its Glorious Message of Salvation

God’s only way of salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone (Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 11:6). The eternal, sinless Son of God became man to die as a substitute to satisfy divine justice for condemned sinners (Rom. 3:21-26). His resurrection from the dead assures eternal life to all who repent and believe His Gospel. All other religious books declare man must merit salvation through good works and religious rituals.

Its Historical and Geographical Accuracy

Archeologists continue to unearth evidence of ancient people, places, and cultures described in the Bible. Many of the Bible’s claims are supported by verifiable evidence. Other religious books have no artifacts to support their claims.

Its Scientific Accuracy

Modern technology continues to unfold the mysteries of the universe that were recorded in the Bible thousands of years ago. God not only created the universe and set in motion the laws that govern it. He also inspired the writers to record these fascinating mysteries.

Its Brutally Honest Accounts of its Heroes

The Bible reveals Moses, the lawgiver, was a murderer; David, Israel’s most beloved king, was an adulterer and conspired to have the husband killed; Paul was the worst of sinners; and Peter was a betrayer of the Lord Jesus.

No other religious book reveals the mind of God, the nature of man, the only way of salvation, the judgment of sinners, the blessings of believers and the foretelling of future events. The Bible is the only infallible source for truth that we have on this earth. The uninspired words of every man’s teaching must be tested using the inspired Word of God. We need the truth of the Bible in these days of great deception and declining discernment. Don’t let anyone tell you the Bible has no authority. The Bible is absolute truth for all people for all time and eternity. Let us encourage everyone to build their faith on the solid foundation of God’s Word.

Blood bought child of the King of kings.
What is better than God's Word ?

Psalm 19:7-
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting
the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure,
making wise the simple.

The statutes of the LORD are right , rejoicing
the heart : the commandment of the LORD
is pure , enlightening the eyes.

The fear of the LORD is clean , enduring for
ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and
righteous altogether.

More to be desired are they than gold ,
yea, than much fine gold : sweeter also than
honey and the honeycomb.

Amen.

Choose Your Words Carefully...
Deuteronomy 32:47
For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.”

John 6:63
The Spirit is the One who gives life. The flesh doesn’t help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

John 6:67-69 HCSB

67 Therefore Jesus said to the Twelve, “You don’t want to go away too, do you?”

68 Simon Peter answered, “Lord, who will we go to? You have the words of eternal life.

69 We have come to believe and know that You are the Holy One of God!”

Another thing to add to the list are the martyrs of the early Church, including the disciples except for John. The disciples were eyewitnesses to Jesus, His deeds, and the resurrection. Nobody would chose such terrible ways to die for something untrue. We have secular historical records of the persecution of the early Church. Even though John wasn't killed he certainly suffered many persecutions.

Oh John was tortured! He just refused to die. He was thrown in boiling water!

Or as Descarte said, if there is a God He must be perfect, and a perfect God would not lie to us. Something like that. :nod
