Whats your plans for the day?

Apparently, our sump pump sucked up another rock overnight. My husband got home just in time to prevent it flooding the basement. He jerry-rigged some form of cover but I just heard it really struggling just now to empty out. Makes me nervous.

It looks like it rained early this morning so I'm going to wait for things to dry out before I mow the lawn. I had been hoping to mow it earlier in the morning before it got hot but I hate mowing wet grass.

And the mobile home life does sound fun. I have watched a few YouTube vlogs of a retired couple travelling across Canada. It seems like it would be fun to do for shorter periods of time. There is so much in this country and America that I wish I could see. I love any sort of cheesy tourist trap. I'm not snooty when it comes to that. The cheesy stuff is sometimes the most fun. Small town and rural destinations are my favourite.

One of our first trips later this summer will be to Wyoming, and visit you know who. I hope he wont mind me parking the heavy MH on his front lawn….

We both are ready to leave this crazy state, but not sure where to move yet. It would be nice to sell the home, and follow the good weather year round in our MH.

You'd have to head way north across the border about March or so :lol

(if I had my druthers, I'd have snow and ice year-round :smile

I've been able to harvest more vegetables so far this year than all of last year, yeah, that's how bad last years drought was. Making preliminary plans to expand the garden for winter sowing (I mean, you know, Texas winter, which is like maybe 50 degrees). Went to men's Bible study this a.m. Now, getting ready to exercise for about an hour or less, then shower, nap, read. In that order.

I like moderate temps in the 70's not too hot or cold. I don't like the heat.

70s is stifling to me, but I'll probably get used to it. A few days ago I ran later in the day and it felt like it was 90 deg F to me. Thought I was gonna pass out from heat stroke. I checked the temp when I got home and it was in the low 60s... I'll adapt.

I know what a heat stroke is had one July 12, 1995. I was doing the food section for the K.C. Star newspaper, and got overheated and dehydrated. I was walking and passed out in someones driveway. I was taken to the hospital in a coma for about 18 hours. When I came out, I found out that my doctors name was Tom Jones. I asked him if he could sing. He said I don't believe it you were in a coma, and now cracking jokes. I said if I lose my sense of humor I'm dead. I was in the hospital until July 15th. TT, you are used to the really cold temps in Alaska so you are in quite a change of temps in Wyoming.

No matter the length, I think the gov'ners from Oregon to Wyoming should provide police escorts, front and rear, so he won't be bothered with having to change lanes during the trip.

Is there something about @Andy C 's driving we should know :eek :lol :stirpot

100 straight feet around a corner would be really, really tough . . . but triples and seriously oversized change lanes without issues, so long as stupid 4-wheelers don't do something stupid . . .

When I was a young man on a backpacking trip in the Sierra Nevada I passed out after we'd made camp for the evening and I went exploring up a mountainside. I regained consciousness when the sun was starting to set and the temps cooled a good bit. I probably should have been drinking more fluids.

Went to two banks (Dad and I don't bank at the same bank), grocery store, Post Office, and a convenience store. Took Dad to the bottom of the driveway for his walk through the neighborhood. Either the heat or Dad deteriorated significantly since yesterday. He almost fell by the back of the car, and again getting out of the car and then again on his way up the ramp into the house. Glad he wears a belt . . . I almost had to get the transport chair out :eek :

Took care of the dog and will take care of the plants in a few minutes.

Then, :cloud9

It can be parked in the street for up to 5 days. It wouldn't fit in the driveway and he wouldn't be able to level it in the driveway, but if it did fit in the driveway the 5 day limit would still be in effect. Some neighbors nearby have a massive 5th wheel trailer that they occasional park in the street for a few days at a time.
There is a KOA campground near your house that we have used in the past.

From previous experience, they make the weed killer so weak that it's best to find a concentrate
I like Ortho concentrate, you need something strong with 3 herbicides ( 2.127% Dimethylamine Salt of Mecoprop-p Acid; 8.658% Dimethylamine Salt of 2,4-D Acid; 0.371% Dicamba Acid) the premixe products are lacking punch, I mix the concentrate at 1 oz/gal. during cool weather and if it is the 90's temps or higher I drop down to half ounce/gal. Hotter weather you may have to spray more often. During the fall be relentless and really spray them, you will be glad you did the next spring ;)

Why not make a screen from heavy wire mesh that the pump can set in. Then the only rocks it gets is what will fit through the screen.

I think that's what I'm using. After I used up the orginal that came with the sprayer, I bought some concentrate. The directions say 2.5 oz per gallon, so I mixed 8 oz per gallon. Seems to slowly be doing the job, though there is one broad leaf plant mixed in with the grass that may not be affected by the ortho poison... maybe with time.

Yes, that would be a good idea. We will just have to get some. My husband had found a plastic tray that seemed to be the right size with rounded edges and a small hole to let water through. But also, the shortened float came loose so it makes it run longer than it should so there is not enough water and the pump then picks up rocks. Our friend had shortened it but said it wasn't in really well and then my husband had noticed the same problem. The clip seems too small for the wire to fit in. I don't know. I am sure we will figure it out.

I pushed myself to do the lawn today. I really do wish my husband would do it more because it triggers my allergies but he's doing the overnight this week and it just couldn't wait any longer. And my daughter's birthday party is on Sunday. I had run out of gas at one point so I came in to read to the kids and put them to bed and then I checked the weather which said a heat wave was starting tomorrow. So I made myself go back out and not only finish the front lawn (after refilling the gas) but the third section along the road which I had planned to do tomorrow. I didn't completely finish the third section as I was getting to the point where it felt like my arms were going to fall off. LOL :drama2:drama2:drama2 That section would work with a riding lawn mower but still probably not worth the investment.

Tomorrow is my daughter's birthday. Her party is on Sunday but we will still have a special time just us tomorrow. My parents' present arrived in the mail already so she will open that as well as the one from us. The inlaws sent money so she will pick something out on Saturday when we're in town. It will be her last year in the single digits. I want more babies just so I don't have to leave the 'little kid' phase behind me forever and the grandkid phase is still too far away. But babies just aren't physically possible for us anymore. It's a miracle we have any. My two little miracles...:cloud9:cloud9

The product I had was commercial use, much more potent, the product home owners can purchase is not same strength. just like the products for yellow nutsedge, commercial grade product Basagran is incredibly effective at eliminating it . Since I am not licensed any longer I have to use what all homeowners can buy. The Ortho or weedBgone both work but you have to keep feeding/spraying it more often.

Yeah. My experience is you have to at least double the strength of the mix and then you have to spray your targets a few to several times before you succeed.
