Whats your plans for the day?

I can just picture it. One of my Grandpas was a Mennonite. Quite the scandal since he married a Lutheran :lol
The two churches shared a building until the Mennonite congregation got big enough to get their own church.
Historic Muddy Creek Lutheran Church. I was Baptized there as a baby (obviously don't remember it) :smile

I saw a picture of a sad German Shepherd once titled I see you has sammich! I has NO sammich! and the saddest guilt inducing eyes ever. Dogs are so good at guilt.

My GSD can do the sad eyes thing, but she's also "all business" and won't beg or try to guilt anyone, especially over food. The closest she comes is when I had to put the cat down and she seriously missed and grieved him or is silently asking permission to chase someone/something. Or staring at/watching me when she wants to go pee-and-poo. Big teeth and extremely protective and hard-headed :lol so I'm glad I trained her and she understands the pack hierarchy of the house (people-cats-dogs) and doesn't dispute who gets what (hers is whatever is in her food and water buckets, and only when I give it to her with the secret word). No people food for her (unless times get tough and there's no dog food and I have to share mine/use people food scraps). Or she has to do her job in defense of me or family, the house, or the car, and earns a steak :trex

I bet your dog has a differing view, and feels he will only play along so much…..:cliff

She was specifically trained (and proofed) not to take food, water, treats, toys, etc. without the secret word to prevent poisoning or co-opting her performing her duties. That includes anything she finds in public, a building, the yard, on the floor, etc. I periodically test and reinforce training. The Veterinarian needs and does have the word in her records in case something has happened to me or I have to leave her in the Vet's care :smile

It's very dangerous to both dog and handler for a K9 or personal protection dog to not be trained this way. Bad guys don't (usually) care who (or what) they hurt :mad If a dog is co-opted or distracted, the owner/handler can no longer count on the dog to do his or her job.

The VA healthcare system here is awesome. I messaged my provider yesterday, explaining my lengthy tailbone issues, and what treatment I have had, and that I needed a pain management appt. I received a response back yesterday afternoon, telling me to go to the Xray dept and once that is completed, the pain management Dr will see me to determine if injections will help the area affected. Im getting xrays tomorrow.

I sent the same info/request to my civilian DR, and also received a quick response, only they said we can see you in mid July………

It's another beautiful day here north of the blue state of Colorado. Still getting used to living in close proximity to others. It's strange for me to walk outside and see a bunch of houses. I lived in the middle of a forest for too long, I guess. I've got a nephew and his wife passing through here. They'll arrive to night and stay in town for a couple of days. While I know all of my nephews and nieces this one in particular seems to want relationships with family and I'm happy for that because I want the same. Guess I'll need to plan a couple of nice meals for them. I need to give breakfast anothe hour to digest, then I can go for a run.

Not sure I could go back! When we moved from the city to out here, we first rented a 100 year old farmhouse and we literally could see no neighbours besides a hog barn but that had no home near by. So, when we finally got the house we wanted in town, suddenly a population of 400 felt crowded! So funny after spending the first 27 years of my life in a city of over 100, 000. I long to live a more secluded life. I am so glad we are surrounded by trees and are the very literal edge of town so I can see a field outside my front window.

It's our last 'full' week of homeschool. And it wasn't even truly full because Monday was Victoria Day. And it's been mostly stressful. And not just because of the car stuff. The kids know our year is almost over and have just decided to 'coast' the rest of the way. So even with reduced workloads, they are stretching the day out for hours and hours past what it normally takes even with a full workload. My son with autism has "checked out" a long while ago so trying to get him across the finish line is super painful. We already finish a month early so I can't let him off the hook any sooner. But if I push too much then it just undoes so much and he regresses. I am tempted to just stop with him now. I basically just have one last curriculum that we need to finish but I may just give up on the rest. For 'language arts' I'm just getting them to write one-page stories each day with a writing prompt I have made up for them.

Our targeted last day is May 31st. My daughter's birthday is June 2nd and there will be a mutiny if she has to do school then. My son's birthday is in July so the idea that normal life has to happen on their birthdays is totally foreign to them. Haha. My daughter was in kindergarten at public school but that was 2020 so she never finished the year. I'm going to look online for some last day of class activities. I usually have them do a "year in review" worksheet where they can look back and say what they liked best. We'll see.

We went to Lenexa, Kansas today to put artificial flowers on my mom and dad's graves. It is a 45 minute drive to and back. While almost home we stopped at McDonald's for 4 McDouble's and a large Sprite for Jeff. I plan to relax the rest of the day. I have started my ribs for dinner.

We discovered quite by accident last week (all Glory to God for the way we found out) that our 18 year old, neutered male cat was peeing blood. He had no other symptoms, so if we didn't find out by a total fluke, we would have never known until it was too late.
Our vet couldn't get him in last week, so I called all the area vets and we were put on wait lists. There is a 24-hour emergency vet about an hour away, but there was no way we could afford it. The blood was so much worse today that I called our vet again and told them that if they didn't get him in today, I would just show up there and wait until somebody saw him. They gave me an appointment this afternoon. We were wondering if it could be bladder stones, but thankfully the x-ray and ultrasound showed no stones and no bladder masses. I had managed to get a good urine sample before we left, and it showed a raging bladder infection, so now he is on pain meds, anti-inflammatories, and 2 weeks worth of the strongest antibiotics that cats can have. I am so grateful to God that we got him in today and what he has is treatable. The vet could not believe he is 18 years old. He looks 8 at the most. He is half Maine Coon, so I was not too surprised when they weighed him and he came in at 19 1/2 pounds.

Praising my Savior all the day long!
Uh Oh we had  Twinkies last night. ;)
I am still hitting chocolate, Private Collection Extreme Brownies, I'm addicted and need help, I have cut the brownie in half the last two days and cut back on the scoop size of vanilla bean ice cream on top.. I am hitting it hard outside in the yard working on the water lines and planted 6 Cardinal flower plants today, so busy I had no lunch today. I'm pretty active and eat lean the rest of the day and I burn a lot of calories, I should get on the scale tomorrow and see if there has been any weight gain, does not feel like it.
