What is the lighting bolt icon for/do?

In the toolbar there is an icon shaped like a lighting bolt, can someone tell me what it does?

I think it's to show the latest threads that are being currently being replied to

When I am in a thread and I hit the bolt it takes me back to the new post page so right now I’m thinking it’s a back button.

Yep. It takes you to the what's new section. Similar is the new posts heading, but by default that shows you recent unread topics vs all recent topics under what's new/lightning bolt.

It shows up on my phone at the top of the page -- must be a mobile thing. On the web version from a computer, it's just the new posts link.

That's it. It's on my phone but not on the laptop. I thought I'd remembered seeing a lightning bolt icon so was a little confused when I couldn't find one anywhere after our Cajun asked the question about it.

On a laptop its towards the upper right inside the blue NewPosts button.
