War in Ukraine Brings Bitter Harvest to Moldovan Orchards​

"BILICENII VECHI, Moldova: A warehouse in Moldova is piled high with crates of red apples but for an industry reeling from war in neighboring Ukraine, the sight is far from appetizing. The conflict has all but ended apple exports to Russia, traditionally the main buyer of produce from Moldova’s orchards. “I don’t know what we are going to do with the apples that are left over,” admits grower Valeriu Matcovschi. “There are too many for us to sell on the Moldovan market,” he says in the northern village of Bilicenii-Vechi."

We could use them in the USA. Prices for apples are quite high. Maybe an added source would mitigate those prices a little bit.

Surprised the Russians don’t just haul them off to Russia. Thinking though it’s easier to control starving soldiers and people.

I'm wondering where Russia is thinking they are going to get food from as it looks like Ukraine is not really going to be able to provide that very well this year.

Russia has sufficient good farmland to provide for itself and other countries.

Whether or not farmers are able or willing to farm is another issue altogether.

They also have lots of cattle, pigs, etc.
