Walmart

We only have one Walmart in town, and it is okay. I only go there once a year to get a Holiday Time Year Christmas bear for my daughter (I have gotten her one every year since her first Christmas). They didn't get them in this year. :(
We use to also have a Walmart grocery store over a decade ago, but it didn't make it through it's first year. It was terrible.

Our Walmart is decent it has the pharmacy we go to, and it is a Super Center grocery store. It has restrooms in the front and back of the store.

Are those "people of Walmart" photos legit or they just random people they get to pose as customers in there ?

Some of the things people wear to those stores beggars belief if it is true !!!!
Unfortunately those photos are 99% legitimate. When Walmart opened in our town the first five years they kept the store immaculate.

After our KMart closed that left us with one department store, Walmart. In the last ten years it has declined steadily. In that decline so has the dress of some of the clientele.

Some of those photos on People of Walmart could have been at our local store. There is nothing that would surprise me to see in a Walmart store.

I used to like going to our Walmart “superstore.”

Not so much anymore because of the growing drug/crime problem in our area, so I don’t like to go shopping alone at all at this point.
You need an escort like a friend of the guy I knew while I lived in Detroit. He walks into our favorite pizza place and sits down. Watches 6 motorcyclist from a gang pick on her. He gets up and says nicely to them to not pick on the waitress. They didn't quit. So this little retired special forces guy started throwing the six of the gang around. After they were all down he went outside and slashed the tires on their bikes. They never came back to that pizza place again!

Walmart must be really different in the States. I have never understood the jokes about how gross and low-brow it is. I guess since we lost Zellers a decade ago we no longer have any equivalents. (We lost Woolco a long time before that and I can't remember the last time I saw a K-mart). We don't have a Target but when I see people post their videos of loving Target so much I think it looks a lot like Walmart. I don't get why once is "gross" and the other is some haven for suburban women. They seem exactly the same to me.

If you want a bit of a grosser all-purpose store I would think of Giant Tiger but I think that depends on the neighbourhood. Our town's Giant Tiger is pretty clean though has very sparse selection. Our Walmart doesn't have much variety either, to be fair. It's a small city. Less than 20, 000.

The quality of a Wally World as well as Target seems to depend on management and location.

Some stores cater to an area where theft, littering, and carelessness run rampant.
The places are a mess and not worth the trip.... you could get mugged or shot in the parking lot.

My son told of a Walmart in MN that must have a theft rate of over 60%. Shelves are stocked, but with limited or no choice.
Apparently the Somali refugees in that area need a generation or two of schooling to approach something close to civilized conduct.
Its amazing how war, poverty, and islam destroys a people.

Other stores are distant or in better communities, well policed, and not only provide a pleasant clean place to shop, but have very low prices.

Walmarts in the coal region or well outside cities seem better than those closer to Philly or depressed city centers like Lebanon, Lancaster, or Reading PA.

We do have good competition from Boscov's, Giant, Redner's, Wise, and Aldi to keep Target and Walmart on their toes.
We also appear to have one Whole Foods near by. Kinda like trader Joes.

Most are in good shape but the Stores reflect the quality of the community where they're located.

The worst Walmarts I've been in were the smaller community stores they put in poorer areas. Those were horrible.

I was thrown out of the breakroom of my Walmart yesterday.
They asked me what I was doing there.
I told them I was on a break.
They said you don't work here.
I said I'd just finished using the self checkout so clearly I do. :bouncies

I had a melt down at Wally’s World in Florida one time. The heat and traffic had done a number on me. The place was a circus so I let everybody know that the manager of the place should be fired.

i just want to know why they are constantly moving things around. Just when i can zoom around and get my shopping done quickly they switch things up. Makes me want to throw a tantrum that would make a toddler proud.
Go ahead and throw that tantrum until they hear it in Bentonville, Arkansas.

It can be the most exasperating place.

Its sales tactics to try to manipulate you into buying other products that you did not come in there for. Also I think some companies pay for their products to be placed in certain areas. I don't know if that is true or not but heard that on youtube. They have their reasons.

That sounds reasonable to me. But they only have (what?) 8 hours to do it in?

In NC, we shopped at Walmart all the time, and it was well run and always clean. Here in Oregon, seldom do I go there mainly because its more convenient to go to the local Fred Meyer. Im a easy shopper, and dont need much, and Freds has most of what I need.
When we are camping we like to shop at the Wal Mart super centers because they have everything we need. We are leaving on a camping trip in a few days and are staying at 6 different military bases along the east coast. We love to shop at the different PX/BX and commissary stores to check them out, along with driving around the military bases and going to the military museums.

While your base hopping on the east coast, in a few weeks we will be base hopping at 3 different military RV parks in Southern CA.

The only military RV park we used on the east coast was Camp Lejeune in NC.

We shop at our Walmart sometimes out of necessity (but it has really gone down hill since Covid) but mostly we shop at (Fredrick) Meijer which is right down the road from our Walmart. Their grocery prices are better than Walmart and their quality (in groceries, clothes, home goods, all the things Walmart sells) is much better overall. Maybe a tad bit higher on some things but with the better customer service and cleaner store, not enough to compel us to go to Walmart.

Have fun! The military campgrounds are the way to stay. Most of the military campgrounds on the east coast only cost $35 per night except for Ft Belvoir in Washington DC which is $ 55 per night.
