VP Harris Applauded for Pro-Abortion Comments During The National Baptist Convention; SBC President Condemns Remarks

By Jesse T. Jackson
September 9, 2022

"On Thursday (Sept. 8), Vice President Kamala Harris addressed the 142nd Annual Session of The National Baptist Convention (NBC) in Houston, Texas.
According to their website, the NBC is the “nation’s oldest and largest African American religious convention” and consists of over 7.5 million members."

""Harris then used words from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church of Corinth as a charge for NBC attenders to fight for abortion access: “Be on your guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong. And do everything in love (1 Corinthians 16:13-14).”

The crowd applauded Harris after she said, “As extremists work to take away the freedom of women to make decisions about their own bodies, faith leaders are taking a stand, knowing one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held religious beliefs to agree that a woman should have the ability to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do.”"

I have a cousin who calims to be a christian actually think a fetus is just a cell the first few months of pregnancy. And she is a Biden supporter.
Fortunately, the only thing your cousin has to have to be saved (and thus be a Christian) is faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior :smile

There are a lot of people in my area that are saved (Christians), but are very liberal politically and socially. Very liberal ELCA and society/culture/politics mirror one another here.

Thanks for the reminder. I may of been a little rough on my earlier post about Harris.

Saved by faith…..period.

I don't think you were wrong about your reaction to the NBC reaction to Vice President Harris.

Whether or not she's a Christian, that's between her and God.

Sometimes, it's hard for conservative Christians to hear and see what liberal Christians say and do. Just like it's hard for liberal Christians to hear and see what conservative Christians say and do.

Fortunately, God :smile

Extremists...defined by unsaved people who are double minded. Satan quoted Scripture too. Being extreme for Jesus...nothin wrong with that. But evil ppl are also extremists...in their evil ways. But they mean that being on fire for Jesus is extreme in a bad way. The demonic accusing extreme 100% trust in God...sounds just like Satan.

I honestly would suspect the faith of anyone who claims Christ yet supports abortion. There are some obvious fruits. A church that applauds it is way beyond seeing it as something they don't like but can overlook. They were *applauding* it. They see an obvious evil as a good. Harris has said enough that I would say any claims of faith are lies. I actually don't support the notion of the 'carnal Christian'. Jesus does say you will recognize people by their fruits. And Harris is the VP. We have enough statements and actions to make a more complete picture. We can't be naive. Ultimately, it is still up to God to decide who goes to heaven and who doesn't but the Church should absolutely have nothing to do with her other than reaching out with the Gospel and pointing her to Christ.

I don't know anything about NBC other than @usoutpost31 posted up-thread the organization doesn't have an official position and each church has to decide for itself. I hope this liberty is used wisely and in accordance with God's Word by church leadership in each congregation.

Even the very, very liberal ELCA recognizes life begins at conception and is from God, opposes abortion, except in case of mother's life, rape, incest, and terrible birth defects, and encourages prayer and Pastoral counsel.

To me, saying abortion is just a political issue is like saying the issue over sending Jews into gas chambers was just a political issue. The Nazis dehumanized their victims just like the abortionists do, but that didn't make the Jews any less human. And the ones who dehumanized them had to know on some level that the ones they were killing were real human beings, but superficially they lied to themselves about it (this is what George Orwell called doublethink). And the same thing goes for those who support abortion.

Back in my sinful days I was pro abortion. But I didn't lie to myself about it; I knew a human life was being snuffed out but I just didn't care; the baby is unaware and unloved and has no power to stop us from killing it, so why not get it out of the way? I never called myself pro choice; I openly called myself pro abortion. But that was a long time ago.

If I remember my history about Germany under the National Socialists right it seems like some churches went along to get along. I wonder how many churches do that today, and lie to themselves about it. Only God knows. And He's the one who will make the judgment that matters in the end.

As far as being a political and social liberal as well as a Christian, I think that's problematic, since being a social liberal means agreeing that things like homosexuality are not a sin, and Jesus is not the only way to reach God.

God wants us to love the sinner but hate the sin. Loving the sinner does not mean pretending that his sin is not a sin, or that unrepentant sin isn't a big deal. Imagine some guy decides to take a hike with a blindfold on and gets onto the wrong path. When you come along you see that he's walking straight toward a cliff, and if he doesn't change direction he'll fall over the cliff and die horribly. So you tell him that he's heading toward a cliff, and he responds that you are just being intolerant of the path he chose. But the cliff is really easy for you to see and so is his fate if he doesn't change his direction. So do you decide to be tolerant and pretend that he's not on the wrong path, even going as far as telling him that his path is perfectly fine, just another choice, or do you try to convince him of the danger ahead?

It absolutely disgusts me and ticks me off to no end, to see people quoting scripture to justify evil.
If I had been there I would have stood up and said something. Or at the very least, got up and walked out of there.
What a bunch of :poop

Clapping the dust off of one's sandals . . .

Nailing 95 theses to a door . . .

11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.

Sadly, could it be that the NBC is becoming apostate just like so many other church orgs as it embraces the world‘s values (a woman’s “freedom and convenience” at the expense of life And God’s will?
