WASHINGTON – US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will speak with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett about his mediation efforts to end Russia's war against Ukraine when he visits Israel starting Saturday, as part of his Middle East trip that will include stops in Morocco and Algiers. "We will be discussing Israel's efforts" to negotiate between Russia and Ukraine, US Acting Assistant Secretary for Near Yael Lempert told reporters on Thursday, adding that "we appreciate Israel's role."

Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met with Russian President Vladimir Putin two days after the start of the war and has spoken separately by phone both with him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy and Ukrainian officials have praised his efforts and spoken of Jerusalem as a possible venue for a summit with Russia.

I wonder if Bennett will ask Blinkin to explain the $1,000,000 the US is offering to report on Israeli human rights violations.
I was just thinking about that! Blinken talks out of both sides of his mouth and Israel would be wise to point out that when the US isn't offering to pay for stories of woe (talk about incentive to lie) that maybe Israel might be more inclined to help out.

Meanwhile this is a fools errand for Israel. Russia is already angry at them and has sent several hints thru lower officials about their patience in Syria running thin with Israeli raids on Iranian arms depots etc. Having them mediate or help persuade Russia to stop doing what Russia wants to do is only going to enrage Russia further and ISRAEL not America will get the brunt of that rage.

Blinken is really cheeky to expect Israel to take on that huge risk for no benefit except more sniping and antisemitic attacks from the US State dept.
