US protests Israel's refusal to back UN resolution on Russia
US Ambassador protests to Israeli Ambassador after Israel refuses to join 87 countries in backing resolution condemning Russia at Security Council.

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, protested to Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan over Israel's refusal to join 87 countries in backing a US-led resolution to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine at the UN Security Council on Friday, Israeli officials told Barak Ravid of Axios on Sunday.

In the past week, the Prime Minister's Office and the Foreign Ministry said that the United States understands the Israeli position and is not pressuring Israel regarding its position on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, as it turns out there was actually American pressure on Israel behind the scenes and dissatisfaction on the part of the Biden administration with the Israeli conduct.

Israel, according to Ravid, dragged its feet as the US was gathering co-sponsors for the resolution and did not provide a clear answer before the meeting began. After the vote, which Russia vetoed, Thomas Greenfield passed a message to Erdan stressing the Biden administration’s disappointment.

Sadly, Israel is a fence sitter a lot of times. They have brought this upon themselves.

They have tried to sit on the fence in important matters in the past as to not "offend" people and it will come back and bite them. They have sat on the fence on other conflicts and other issues in the past.

As with a lot of things in general, the Jews try to take the "high moral ground" on lots of "liberal" topics like LGBTQ, abortion, etc. and they are sadly mistaken. These things are against God's Will and they have chosen to go the way "that seems right to men, but leads to destruction". In this Russia-Ukraine situation, they are not going to condemn Russia, but Russia will move on them as a result as Bible prophecy tells us.. So, much for not trying to irritate the Russian Bear. :doh

Principles matter rather than the political winds that blow each day. Israel has not learned this. They try to lean in whatever direction the political winds blow and compromise on principles. This is a recipe for disaster.

I understand they are a small country, etc. But if you give dictators, the Left, tyranny, etc. an inch they will take a mile.

I'm guessing without the Holy Spirit in them to help guide them, that they are relying on their own intuition to guide themselves. As we all know, we can't do anything without God.

We need to pray for Israel and that they come to Jesus. Every other direction leads to destruction. JMHO. :sad

Why should Israel stick their neck out and cause trouble with Russia when Biden is proven himself unfaithful to his allies, and someone who won't keep promises? Just look at Afghanistan.

Bottom line, Biden doesn't have Israel's back. They are back to pressuring Israel to give up land, stop building on their own land, and the US is pressuring Israel to stop the pipeline. They've stopped Israel in the past from taking out Iran's nukes only to see the JCPOA happen, while Biden was Vice President.

The Dems hate Israel, the Squad is on the Dems side and Biden has a bunch of advisors who don't like Israel.

Israel doesn't elect their leaders to protect other countries, they rightfully expect their leaders will be wise and put the interests of Israel first, then see what they can do to help.

And help they do, they are often first on the ground in other countries giving humanitarian aid.

Right now Israel is in an extremely dangerous position with Russia and the Ukraine. By putting themselves in the middle of a conflict (and I see they have offered to mediate, which is far more dangerous) they risk becoming part of the conflict with a much larger and more dangerous nation to their immediate north-- sitting just across the Golan Heights.

The Golan Heights is something Russia declared doesn't belong to Israel, just in the last week. Lavrov the Foreign Minister declared that. That is a direct message to Israel that Russia is taking side with Syria to remove the Golan from Israeli control. That is a no win situation right there for Israel.

Yet a vote in the UN --which has never stopped a war in the past, is expected of them, which could endanger their future and for what?

They are smart to avoid it. If Trump was in power they'd probably cheerfully go ahead.

But this is backstabbing Biden we are talking about here.

I agree

Concerning that Israel FM Lapid said in the article he will sign onto to UN General Assembly today in favor of Condemnation of Russia. While Bennett carefully walks a tight rope only supporting Ukraine (no condemnation), this will be Lapid's 2nd condemnation of Russia. The 1st of which got the Israel envoy summoned (ordered) to Moscow to clarify Israel's position. Makes me wonder if Bennet and Lapid are on the same page.
