Earlier today I got a message from this special brother in Christ message me through facebook with a question about tithing. I was at work and couldn't mediate on that but his questions did came back and forth in my head as I kept working. Finally I am on my laptop and I replied plus wanted to share a message I replied but my messages didn't include Word of God. I was wondering if it seems right and I value your input. Read below kindly:

"Brother. Honestly I couldn't think of better way to describe about tithing. My other brothers in Christ and I discuss it before and we came down to several ways: give tithes for those who are advancing the Gospel and in His name Jesus (priority); turn your tithes into resources to help others like providing roofs, cloths and foods (Lord Jesus will remember you for this); tithes where Holy Spirit lead you to give and don't ask for it back; I could add more but I am pretty sure you get it as soon as you understood above. Old testament, God and children of Israel were under old covenant. Children of Israel were to tithes to God - which is to give to tribes of Levi because Levi don't have any inheritance in the land of Israel but 11 tribes of Israel share their part of inheritance with the tribe of Levi. Levi are to focus on serving between God and children of Israel. Thus tithing was required for 11 tribes to give to Levi for a service to temple of God.

With Jesus under His new covenant is that we are not required to tithes but we are encourage to help others in need. Always a good ideas to visit the poor, orphans, and widows. Tithing, through Lord Jesus, can be considered giving your time to the Lord by serving others in need. I hope that helps."

As I was typing that messages above several scripture did came to mind without revealing it. Sometime I wonder if this brother actually read the scripture. I know I did because in past time tithing was brought up many time and it was hard to get answer about tithing. Studying the scriptures provided answers. What is your input?

The Berean Call put this out this week which I thought quite good and Biblical in such few words.

Tithing was a law for the Israelites but not for Christians, who are not under the Law but Grace. Nevertheless, some Christians choose to tithe as a form for their giving to the Lord’s work. As Christians, everything we have is the Lord’s; therefore, we give as the Lord leads, with a cheerful heart—not on the basis of Law. To use the tithe as a basis of giving is fine, as long as it is a matter of the heart; however, there are many misunderstandings in the Body of Christ about this subject. For instance, people who tithe can give for the wrong reasons (to fulfill an obligation instead of from a loving response); and they might think they’ve done all they should do, when the Lord may want them to do much more.

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

Imperfect but forgiven
If/when my kids ask about the topic of giving, I tell them that God loves a generous and joyful heart. I tell them not too feel an obligation to give but do give the amount that they can give joyfully.

Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Cor 9:7

He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives some of his food to the poor. Proverbs 22:9

I feel compelled to donate to an organization that works to translate the Bible into other languages. I’m just not sure where to find a reputable organization involved in these efforts.
