The Rapture Report — ‘Barbie’ film ‘forgets core audience’ in favor of trans agenda and gender themes

I wasn't the biggest fan of Barbie as a child as I preferred my toy animals over dolls but I did have some --including half of my mom's old stuff (she split hers between my sister and I). My mom had encouraged us to play Barbie and Ken as already married and the dolls meant to be her sisters we played to be their daughters. So Barbie was always very domestic for me. I mean, I still played detective and spy and mountain climbing, camping, rock star and all those sorts of things with Barbie but it was always a family affair. I forget that is not how the doll was really meant to be played.

I never bought Barbies for my daughter because even a few dolls turns into a mountain of clothes and accessories that get EVERYWHERE. And my brother had warned me that the doll had changed. You used to buy a doll and then you could get all these outfits. But now, most of the dolls had the outfits moulded onto their bodies and you had to pay a premium price for the dolls that could change outfits. And with the wide range of body positivity dolls you had to be careful to get extra outfits that actually fit them. I just didn't want to get into all that. My daughter still ended up with three Disney princess Barbies. She gave one away but the remaining two are all she has and she really doesn't play with them. I crazy-glued their shoes on! Best decision I ever made.

I saw a few reviews mentioning the movie with it's crazy anti-male message. I do think there is a lot of misunderstanding between men and women and I have seen videos of women online saying how much the movie "spoke to them" but I wonder if the movie is addressing it in a healthy way. But the review that bothered me the most was one that pointed how it opens with girls playing with baby dolls and then the girls smash and break their baby dolls once they see the Barbie. THAT is a strong, non-subtle anti-family message. Women don't want to be seen as mere son-birthers but the pendulum doesn't need to swing so far as to say that having children devalues a woman. It's OK to find value in being a mother.

But the commercials were so over the top! When the movie finally came out I was surprised. I had been seeing ads for so long I had thought it had already come out long ago. And they made clear the movie is not for kids and is aimed at the single women in their 30s who never really grew up. (Just to be clear, this is not a jab at the people who are single and are grown up. There are plenty of lovely Believers who value marriage and family who just never had God bring the right person into their lives yet)

The only thing good about this Barbie movie is the fact that all sorts of businesses are putting out pink stuff as a cash grab. Pink is my favorite color and it's been shunned so much over the last few years it's sometimes hard to find pink things anymore. Well, yay for the dumb movie to give me some pink options again... at least for a little while! I really don't understand why someone hasn't figured out that we all just want entertaining movies without agendas. Disney is losing money, but compare it to something like the Mario movie, which didn't have a agenda, and made a ton of movie worldwide! (I haven't seen it either, but I saw an article about all of this hoopla!)

Its all about Jesus and your relationship with Him
They'll keep vilifying males until it gets to the point where the Taliban become liberating heroes....

and I'm not laughing.

Surgery can change what you look like. It cannot change what you are.

And the important part is what you are in the eyes of your Creator, then understanding His love for you in spite of that.

Saw the movie on the weekend. It was fine I guess. I expected worse but Gerwig is a good director.

My daughter loves pink too. I never cared for pink so when a friend bought my daughter a pink outfit back when I was still pregnant with her, my friend apologized and said, "I forgot you don't like pink". And I had to assure her that it was just a personal preference and not a philosophical one. I said that if my daughter grew up to want pink everything I would be OK with that. I just didn't want a PINK!!!! nursery and everything pink, pink, pink. I always loved purple so even though I wasn't a girly-girl I was still girlish and proud to be a girl. I wasn't a natural-born mother. Any dolls I did have were my 'friends' and we went on adventures together.

I just wish the Mario movie had been more intelligent. It was nice having a movie without an agenda but I'm not eager to rewatch it with the kids. They love it though. The first two Sonic movies were pretty good on that front too though the second one was getting borderline with the bad guy's (Robotnik) helper being overly obsessed with him. I would be very wary in watching the third because of that. I almost thought it would have an agenda when the main couple was bi-racial with the husband being a white police officer of all things but that critical race theory stuff NEVER came up and I thought the marriage as shown was very healthy so that was a big relief. Obviously bi-racial relationships are fine when you share your faith in Christ but with Hollywood you have that moment wondering if it is going to be used to say "white people--men especially--bad".

Just wait until October and the breast cancer awareness pink stuff takes over everything.
Is it Pride Week again where you all are at? We got done with Pride Month in June, and in BC Canada here it's PRIDE WEEK again!!!! complete with parades and propaganda on the news hour reminding everyone how important it all is. I thought I was free and clear once June was over but no, the parades are on again lest we forget!!!!

I blinked and the rainbow warriors are parading all over again. NOT FAIR. But seriously is that happening everywhere or just the lefter most province of Canada.

My wife saw this movie last night. I just asked her about this topic and yes, there is some she said, but it wasn't blatant, in your face type stuff.

I feel like everything is always blown out proportion these days.
With Ryan Reynolds, I honestly expected it to be more of a tongue incheek kind of thing.

But I'm neither shocked or surprised at movies or TV shows anymore these days. I'm actually more shocked when it's something really good. I don't even like seeing new movies anymore. I'd rather just watch my favorite go tos, or something wholesome on YouTube.

We've had pride flags and whatnot in town (Alberta) also!
I'm also looking for work, and noticed Indeed Canada job site still has an Alphabet Mafia flag up.
It's August? *insert confused pikachu meme*

Pride week really should be when Aslan commences His cleansing of evil.

Narnia fans will be cheering!
CS Lewis really nailed the spirit of the age for the final end times in his last Narnia book, "The Last Battle". I don't know what his exact eschatology was but he really nailed a lot of the prevailing attitudes and how the faithful would be small in number and one of the biggest problems would be that those who hate the evil too would be too scared to actually come and help the faithful. And the faithful kept on "occupying" with the hope that Aslan could come bounding in to save the day if he chose to. If not, they would die with honour and see each other in Aslan's country. I think about that part a lot.

I've been seeing a lot of "I'm Christian and I loved the Barbie movie!" type of reviews coming up. I've talked to enough people though that they don't recognize agendas or themes unless it is blatantly in their faces and talk away the lgbt stuff like, "it's minor so no big deal". I'm not going to be legalistic about how much is too much or whatever but I don't like when they reach and say, "it's actually teaching this good thing!" Even the commercials make it clear it is a super feminist, woke piece. Maybe they do address concerns women have but I've heard enough that doesn't really try to achieve true understanding between the sexes. Anything that is oppressors vs oppressed is not OK in my book. Men and women are very different and it takes a whole lot of Jesus-sized grace to bridge that gap. God made us to be partners. We need each other.
