(CNN)The National Rifle Association, often thought of as a powerful, unbeatable special interest group, may have finally met its match.

After the attack this month at a gay nightclub in Orlando -- the deadliest modern mass shooting in the United States -- dozens of LGBTQ groupsjoined with other organizations in calling for "more stringent checks to keep guns out of dangerous hands."
These groups have quite a good track record: They've fought cohesively and successfully for the right for same-sex couples to marry and for more funding and support for HIV and AIDS research and treatment.
"There's a sense that our community is one that people don't want to mess with because we know how to organize politically and we don't take no for an answer," said Marc Solomon, a political strategist and former national campaign director of the group Freedom to Marry.
The fight for tighter gun control laws has been an uphill battle, as evidenced by the sit-in at the House and the vote in the Senate against measures intended to strengthen background checks and prevent suspected terrorists from obtaining weapons.
Heather Thompson, an expert on the history of U.S. social movements, said she thinks it will make a difference if LGBTQ groups become galvanized on gun issues

I just can't understand how seemingly everyone is just ignoring the whole islam factor. Can't punish all muslims for the actions of one muslim but can punish all gun owners for the actions of one criminal with a gun. Color me puzzled.

Obobo won't be satisfied until every gun in America has been confiscated. He is simply delusional.
I received an e-mail FWD the other day supposedly written by Clint Eastwood which explains this whole gun thing, and it's classic Clint!

I voted against that incompetent, lying, flip-flopping, insincere, double-talking, radical socialist, terrorist excusing, bleeding heart, narcissistic, scientific and economic moron currently in the White House! Participating in a gun buy-back program because you think that criminals have too many guns is like having yourself castrated because you think your neighbors have too many kids. Regards, Clint

I don't know if you guys are aware, but I'm involved with an online community (whose symbol is often Milo Yiannopoulos) where homosexuals are taken up arms to defend themselves, with (and I hate "hashtags" so this pains me to say it, but...) #WeShootBack. So I encourage anyone on here who is pro self-defense and is acquainted with a homosexual to take them under your wing and teach them some simple things about shooting (if you know how to shoot appropriately and display proper gun etiquette; we wouldn't want to teach others bad habits). Take the fear of guns out of them, and instill a healthy respect.

I don't feel the need to carry a gun in my church (I just do incidentally at times), cause my community is fairly safe. I can see why one might in certain areas.
My community is a very small town with a very small police force. One of our members is currently in the police force, and another is retired. We have gotten together along with our pastor and formed a plan on what to do if we are confronted with an active shooter situation. We know where each of us is sitting, etc. so we don't shoot each other, things like that.
It doesn't matter if your church is located in the best part of town or the worst when the bad guys come gunning for Christians.
We should always be prepared.

An update to the above post is necessary!
The church member I was referring to that is an active duty policeman was shot just a few days after the above post!
The incident occurred just a couple houses from where our pastor lives, certainly not a bad part of town! This was the first officer involved shooting in over 20 years according to the police chief, and it turns out the bad guy was 69 years old! The good guys took him down and all parties are expected to make a full recovery. Thank God the cops all wear flak jackets as my friend was hit in the chest, but he'll be just fine.:thumbup
