In reading about the Millennial kingdom in the Bible I came to the post Gog of Magog war (Ezekiel 38;39) timeframe.
I came across Ezekiel chapters 40 through 46. In these chapters it gives attention to the third temple. From the instructions on building the temple, to instructions for the High priests offerings in the temple.
Upon reading these chapters questions came to my mind that need understanding. First, after reading these chapters Questions came to my mind because in remembering the content in these verses:
16 “For God so loved the world,[a] that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:10
He entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption
Hebrews 9:12
For then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Hebrews 9:26-28
For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
Romans 8:3
For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Hebrews 10:4
He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself
Hebrews 7:27
In putting thought into the verses I cite here and then thinking about what I read in the Ezekiel chapters regarding the temple, the high priests and daily sacrifices, the main question I have is this,
Before Jesus came in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies of the coming of Messiah, under the law given to Israel by God they were instructed to give animal sacrifices for forgiveness of sins. These animal sacrifices were a foreshadowing of the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus would make when he shed his blood in death on the cross. John 3:16 tells us the reason Jesus came. Under salvation by grace, those who believe in Jesus as the only way to the Father are saved, even if they have died after believing. This is why the dead in Christ is the first resurrection. So when the rapture occurs the dead in Christ rise and together with those still alive in Christ are raptured to be with Jesus. Those left behind are the unbelievers. I think I have all of that understood. But, when thinking about the second coming of Christ I think of this:
Revelation 1:7 says, “‘Look, he is coming with the clouds,’ and ‘every eye will see him, even those who pierced him’; and all peoples on earth ‘will mourn because of him.’ So shall it be! Amen.” This verse brings together two other passages: Matthew 26:64, in which Jesus tells the Sanhedrin they will see the Son “coming on the clouds of heaven”; and Zechariah 12:10, which says that Jerusalem’s inhabitants will mourn when they see “the one they have pierced.”

My attention is turned to the Jewish people here because now that the church age has finished it’s purpose, Gods attention has now turned back to Israel. During the seven year tribulation period this time is used for the unbelievers left behind after the rapture to turn to God, Israel and any Gentiles left. The 144,000 out of the twelve tribes of Israel preach Jesus salvation and his second coming. At the end of Jacobs trouble, then Jesus returns to judge the world with his saints. After judgement, then the Millennium begins.
After the rapture and the seven years tribulation, the world will be judged. At this point my understanding has been that by the time for Jesus second coming everyone will know who Jesus is. By the time judgement has come before Jesus takes rulership of the earth Daniel 2:44, everyone will know who Jesus is.
Here’s where my question came up,
At the time Jesus takes rulership of the earth at the beginning of the millennium, everyone alive on earth should at this point be believers. First I’m trying to understand why during the thousand years there would be a need for animal sacrifices in the third temple when Jesus fulfillment the purpose for those sacrifices with his shed blood? With Jesus ruling and fulfilling the prophecies wouldn’t the Jewish people recognize Jesus as the ultimate sacrifice by this time? The purpose for the animal sacrifices in Ezekiel 42:13,
Ezekiel 43:18-27 and other verses, is supposed to be in line with the practices under the law, before Jesus, to atone for their sins. If by the time the millennium begins they know that Jesus is the fulfillment of the burnt offerings under the law, why will they need to continue the burnt offerings to atone for their sins? I know that during the thousand years sin will still exist because at the end of the millennium Satan is released from the abyss to mislead the nations for a last time. But, what I don’t understand is why there will still be a need for the animal sacrifices again when everyone should know by the millennial reign that Jesus is the prophetic Messiah that the Jews didn’t recognize the first time he came.
My apologies if my question sounds as confused as I am lol
