The chosen tv show

Dd and I are watching it and enjoying it very much. I have not heard anything of Joel Osteen being involved.
The team has a big panel of consultants..........historians, religious leaders (jewish, christian, catholic, and others) ..... to bring in the cultural knowledge
and customs of the times of Jesus' life. They are striving to present a show that "fleshes out" the lives of the disciples as Jesus calls them.
How did fishermen live and react to life? How did a hated tax collector live ....... a Jewish one, for Pete's sake?!! And, so on.......
To me, the people in the bible are being shown in their humanity while they walk with God. They only get a brief mention in the bible, but there was
so much more to them.........that is what is being portrayed. How Jesus CHANGED them.

I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. Yes, they take artistic liberties in order to flesh out the characters of these people. But they are upfront about that. And I don’t think it diminishes or interferes with the Biblical truths being presented.

This is the kind of thing I don't like. That is adding to Scripture and makes some think the Bible says it when it doesn't. God left things out for various reasons.

If they can take liberty and add to scripture with that, what else can they take liberty with?

I've "chosen" not to watch "The Chosen"...not crazy about it. I'll stick to the bible.
Bear in mind if you do watch it, it is VERY loosely based on the bible.
Here's an article stating it is not biblical (we already knew that, but just posting for anyone interested)
Is "The Chosen" biblical?

Thanks for sharing this....I was stoked about watching this with my wife since it just made it’s way to Pureflix.

The article opened my eyes to some things. We may still watch it just out of appreciation for what it DOES offer even if it‘s somewhat ahistorical and takes some liberties with the Biblical truth...but we know to be on the lookout for extra Biblical POV’s now and we know the Holy Bible as the word of God himself supersedes anything that might be portrayed cinematically in this or any future Christian media endeavor.

It’s really frustrating because there is really so little of anything of interest to watch media wise anymore that is isn’t glorifying the “of the world” sentiment.

When I watch anything having to do with the Bible… I always keep in mind that it’s a show and we shouldn’t take it as truth like the Bible itself. I’ve watched this series and while there’s things that are not accurate… I like how they make Jesus more human. Like joking around with his followers. We just have to keep in mind that it’s a fictional presentation of him.

I was an original investor of this show and loved it. Then I started to get concerned as episodes continued and I finally have decided I can no longer support this show since watching season 2 episode 5. Their portrayal of Jesus is heretical and I can't ignore the changes to scripture they keep making. It's one thing to add creative back stories not in the Bible, but it's another thing to actually change what is in scripture.

I pray Dallas and the rest of the staff are convicted, corrected, and able to glorify God as they continue on.

I have never watched a single episode, only gone by what I heard that they "flesh out" things not in the Bible to ....help us along...I guess? :scratch
That never end up anywhere good!

Is what He gave us in the Bible enough or is it not? :sad

Season 1 was definitely better. I wonder if this will be like the Left Behind books, where I liked the first one, rolled my eyes in the next two, and couldn't read anymore after that, as more non-scriptural assumptions were thrown in and built upon.

Not saying anything about the show, but I think Jesus had a dry sense of humor, but our media presentations of Him make Him seem humorless. His statement about having a log in your eye while trying to get a speck out of your brother’s eye is a funny image, but it can come off as sarcastic and mean without the right tone.

If you go to several of the Facebook fan pages you will find comments from all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds.......
even dyed in the wool atheists......... who have watched this show, and have had their hearts and minds changed. People who have found salvation and
redemption. It reaches out to the unsaved and untaught, and many of them watch it and pick up their bibles to learn more. As all we, who are Christians, should do also. There are many unsaved who will never step foot into a church building.........but, they will watch this on tv at home. This show could be
the closest thing to a revival we will ever see before the rapture. Many of you complain about this show, but are still attending and supporting
churches and pastors who are way more off base with the gospel. Are you checking what you are being taught to see if it lines up perfectly
with scripture? Are you denouncing them if it is tweaked a bit? The fact is, Dallas and his team have made it very clear that they have embellished the characters,
and they encourage everyone to turn to scripture and read for themselves the Word. It is in watching the personal backgrounds of the disciples, and the
growing relationship with Jesus that brings the viewers to their knees and to tears as they watch. Everyone sees themselves in one or more of the
characters.......... I don't understand why Christians think things have to be done by rote and rules - much like the Pharisees - that have been popular for
years and years and generations of "tradition"......... but, were not present in the early church at all. Yet, they condemn a new vision of reaching out to the unsaved and perishing of today. Sorry for the rant, but some of these posts above really upset me.

ETA: I have seen very few people come to salvation in the church I've attended for over the three+ years ............maybe ten baptisms, total. I have seen thousands
share their testimonies on line since this show began, from around the globe. I would much rather support The Chosen ministry than the dead church building that cannot grow because they fail to preach the fulness of God's Word. They only preach what tickles the ears - a social gospel.

I think part of any controversy surrounding this show may be around our understanding of what “historical fiction” is. The rules are, you take the facts, like bones, and flesh them out by providing probable supporting circumstances, while never violating the original facts, and therefore making it come alive. Everyone reading or watching is supposed to understand this - the supporting contexts are based on “educated guesses.” If it is done well, understanding of the subject matter is enriched.

I haven’t seen anything in The Chosen that goes against the facts we are given in Scripture. If anyone has, that’s worth mentioning. But my hunch is that some simply feel strongly against the historical fiction method being used in any Biblical context, which I understand. I’m not in that camp, and have found The Chosen to be very edifying!
