I watched some of "The Chosen" series about a year ago. I think it's the same one discussed here. The intro. was done by some rabbi. But one red flag was that this was broadcast and praised by TBN. I did not watch any more of it.

Good article that made several solid points.
Alot of good comments as well in this thread.
I especially liked Adrian's sermon ;).

Personally, I don't watch hardly any TV at all.
One of my daughters mentioned it (the series ) to me and said , you would not like it nor be happy about it.

I just heard there is a big stink about the trailer for season 3. Apparently I'm hearing Jesus states "I am the Law" and that it's a quote from the book of Mormon. I have no idea if any of that is true.
I refuse to watch this season because it’s only available through Netflix. Netfli, IMHO, is the leader in promoting the LGBTQ lifestyle, including, married same sex couples

I have not watched any of the series. My husband saw some of the series when visiting his sister. He thought it was ok. I appreciate this information for us to discuss. We don't have Netflix so we won't be watching anyway. But as a retired RN I can say that I can't watch any medical shows on TV. I sit there and comment (yell at the TV) about the inaccurate things about hospital scenes. So I can just image how inaccurate. Some "expert" does not think the detail is important.

I watched the first two seasons when I was going through a really hard time and found it uplifting, it actually made me want to read the Bible more.

Not saying the show is good or Biblically accurate. Just adding my own personal experience.

I didn’t learn of Angel Studios being tied in with LDS until recently, but that’s enough to make me stop watching altogether.

You're welcome. You went through a lot in losing your precious mom when you were still so young. My own mom passed away when I was 27 and our first little baby boy wasn't even a year old yet. So, I definitely understand the heartbreak of such a loss during your season of life. Anything that helped you at that time was a true blessing. It doesn't sound like your theology was altered as a result of viewing a couple of seasons of The Chosen, especially if you had a greater desire to read God's Word. God bless you, SarahRose. All of us are so glad you are a part of our family here at Rapture Forums. We love you, sweet sis. :hug

That must have been so hard, especially being a new mom. I'm sorry you had to go through that. :hug

Thank you for the reassuring words. too. I hesitated to post in this thread because I was feeling bad that I had watched it at all since it has so many red flags.

I am really glad to be here and so grateful for everyone at RF. I love y'all too :inlove

Don't feel badly. I invested in the show before it was popular. I bought their merchandise and now I'm against it. It took me until season 2 to see how it was being used by Satan. I was wanting many to be saved through it. Sadly, it's leading down the path of joining many religions together like Mormonism, Catholicism, Protestants.

Thank you. I was excited about what I thought they were doing, too. I'm glad that we know now not to support it.

Thank you to everyone who responded in this thread. I too watched The Chosen. I love the song at the beginning of the show.

After reading what Chris said about humans interpreting the Bible incorrectly according to their own thoughts was blasphemy, opened my heart to realize that I sinned grievously in believing this movie/show.

I had to stop in the middle of reading Chris's article to ask forgiveness from my heavenly father.

Bible teachers who are professing Christians must be interpreting what
teach to be from the Holy Spirit. There can be no other way for their teachings to be true.

With all of this in mind, what are we Christians supposed to feel/believe when watching Christian programs on television, listening to teachers on YouTube, watching movies such as the Ten Commandments or The Passion of Christ.

It reminds me of something that I read about the Netflix show, The Crown. Not everything on the show was to be believed. A lot of it never happened in history. Yet it was entertainment and it drew us in to believe everything that happened on the show was true.

So now back to Christian programs that we see on television or listen on tape or video, what are we to believe? It's almost as if we should completely ignore everything being taught about the Bible and just read the Bible and pray for the Holy Spirit to interpret. That's what we should be doing anyway.... Trust the Holy Spirit.

I pray that all of the writers on the Rapture Forum are teaching truth because I enjoy reading what they have to say. Does this fall under people interpreting the Bible and sharing their thoughts and teachings? Is Pete Garcia to be believed? What about the others who write about truth and the end times?

So now I've gotten wrapped around the axle and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to read other than the Bible.

The Word of God is the absolute final authority.
However you need to apply the following verse to your daily life.

Second Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed ,
rightly dividing the word of truth.

Also keep in mind the following;
Second Peter 1:20
Knowing this first , that no prophecy of
the scripture is of any private interpretation.

You (all of us) have to know the Word of God so as to know when someone is in error .
To know if what we are reading or being taught lines up with the Bible.
The Word of God feeds the soul and softens the heart.
The Word of God always leads to Jesus Christ.

You mentioned Pete Garcia.
Brother Pete is a great and gifted writer who loves the Lord.
Many of his articles can be found on this site.
He is one of my personal favorites.
Why?

Because what he writes lines up with the context of the Word of God.
There isn't contradictions.
His writings are in harmony with the Scriptures.
However, I wouldn't be able to say this without knowing the Scriptures myself. Remember (2 Timothy 2:15). He writes with a relative manner that is appealing, and confined within the Scriptures.

There are many great articles available here for you to check out.
Pray for wisdom and guidance.

I understand people’s concerns with the show but I don’t think anyone frequenting these forums was the target audience. It appears this show is trying to reach the unsaved especially the younger generations. If someone watches this show and then has an interest in the Bible and Christianity is that a bad thing?

The show is definitely taking some creative liberties especially with the backstories of characters. The most notable in my opinion is the portrayal of Matthew. But I can see where this portrayal of Jesus would make him more relatable to younger audiences.

I’m not trying to defend the show or challenge anyone’s opinion here but it is encouraging to see anything in the entertainment world with a Christian theme succeed and garner attention. Anything other than racism or homosexuality as the primary theme is by default better than 95% of the available content being produced currently.

I wonder how the OP or anyone else would view something like Testament which is a reimplementation of the Book of Acts set in a modern times. How about The Shift which is a sci-fi film that is also based on biblical themes?

There is a bold shift occurring in Christian themed content that not only pushes boundaries like never before but also sets a higher bar with regards to production quality. I’m not so sure this is all bad and I recognize that God can use this content to advance His will.

Let me put it this way: was the Christmas play 100% accurate according to scripture? What about the nativity scene? I don’t look at Christian content as if I have a mental scorecard checking it for 100% accuracy. I’d be much more concerned with the newer Bible translations insisting on things like gender neutral language to be more aligned with modern culture rather than be true to the original text as much as possible.

Maybe it is just encouraging for me to see something being produced that doesn’t immediately call me a racist, tell me I’m a terrible person because I am male, demonize me for my faith, or label me as a deplorable because of my political ideology. I can watch an entire episode of The Chosen without someone attempting to send the message that I am a terrible person simply because of who I am. That is a refreshing change of pace.

Look for any hint of light among the darkness in this world even if that light isn’t bright enough for you or it’s the wrong shade or color for your taste. That is my advice.

Maybe you find the show refreshing because it shows how far gone our culture is that compromise doesn't seem that serious. I don't mean this to condemn you, just to point out that we can all easily find anything promoting Christianity as refreshing if we live in Sodom. Yet if we lived around Jesus we wouldn't tolerate it.

I think that's Satan's strategy. Desensitize people with more and more heinous sin that anything that even says Jesus is seen as acceptable when it's really poisonous too. The Chosen promotes a False Jesus.

I imagine if our culture was so perverse that kids were being raped in public, cannibalism was common place, and Christians were being hung, a prosperity Gospel church led by Steven Furtick or Benny Hinn or Joel Osteen, etc., would seem awesome. Yet, we know they're wolves and spiritually dead.

It would be refreshing to not see those sins happening while not worrying they would kills us. Yet they would be leading us to sin or hell if we're lost.

I agree with your advice about a hint of light is better than nothing. We are the light. I pray that my light is going to be strong enough to encourage a non-believer to accept Jesus. I may never know if he or she did but at least I know that my light was bright enough to make a difference.

All of the little things that we do throughout our Christian walk we will see the results in heaven. We will see all the people who accepted Jesus because of something we did or said. He allows that to happen so that we don't get so big in our head that we start getting pompous and being braggadocious.

Most likely or it could be differentiation for her as Jesus' mother Mary. It does seem Mary was popular name. Either way I was disappointed the Gospel message was not shared during that episode. A missed opportunity just like every episode.
As a former Catholic I don't believe in the mother Mary business. And I stopped watching The Chosen. There is too much confusing issues and God does not want us to be confused. The holy spirit will tell us the truth not The Chosen.

As an aside I'm thinking that the producers may have had some good points. Somehow Satan got involved in their thoughts and started stirring up the pot and letting untruths be part of the message.
