Surgery Tips Needed!

Hello Ladies!
I have been dealing with some newly discovered health issues over the last few weeks, and to make a long story short, I am incredibly happy, blessed and thankful to report that what my GP was not sure was nothing or potentially cancer, is most very likely not cancer at all! I’ve seen some oncologists and basically I have two huge cystic masses (that they ro not think are cancerous) that need come out, and it can’t be done laparoscopically. I’ve been told I have two volley balls inside me. Yes, volley balls.
I may have to have part of my pancreas removed if one of the cysts is attached to the tail of my pancreas. If that is the case, I will also have to have my spleen removed. I should also have to have an ovary removed, but thankfully, it looks like only one of them is affected. I will also be getting my gallbladder removed, because apparently I have gallstones too!
I’m overweight, but was generally healthy prior to 2021. Ever since then, it’s been one nitpicky thing after another, but nothing really major. This will be my first time going under anesthesia, most definitely my first surgery, and most definitely the first time I’ll be admitted to a hospital. My incision will be vertical, basically from just under my breastbone down past my belly button (which they’ll go around).
Needless to say, I feel overwhelmed! I’m thankful, so thankful that not only did all the blood tests come back normal, but the surgeons feel good about everything too, but I could use some advice! If you have any tips or suggestions on how to make this go best for myself both pre and post op, I would be so greatly appreciative! I feel like I’m being thrown into the ocean without knowing how to swim!
i’d even love to hear any feedback on being in the hospital, what to take, what not to take, etc. i’ll be there for 5 days, and my little mind is running a mile a minute trying to figure all of this out!
Lastly, I covet your prayers! I am praying earnestly that the cyst is not attached to my pancreas. They think it is, but can’t know tor sure until they’re in there. I’m asking Jesus to heal me, or at least if it’s His will, to see that the cyst is not attached to my pancreas!
Thank y’all for your time, I know that was a long read!

Before I had my surgery, I set up my bedroom with everything I thought I would need during my recovery - books, video movies, snacks, extra bandages, underwear etc. I even had my laptop available as well but didn't think about having an incision that resulted in having to place my laptop too far away to see it well:) Just stay away from QVC and HSN-they become very enticing when homebound:). When you get home, keep on your pain med schedule and take naps as you need them,

Good advise has been given.
I second taking pain meds before the pain is severe...don't let pain get ahead of you.
Don't get constipated! Take a laxative if needed.
Get ready to take deep breaths after surgery. You want to keep those lungs open and working.
Give yourself time to heal. Please! If you are not up and running in a few weeks.. so what?? Take care of yourself.
Ask questions until you are satisfied.
Absolutely about pain meds! Be careful though because they (at least it’s been my experience) don’t like giving pain meds and you will need them!

Agree with healing as well. I’m guilty of wanting to get right back at things and it never helps. Do take it easy and take things slowly.

And write everything down or have them print your post op directions inc anything you need to take/not take, etc. I’m getting forgetful, and you’ll be groggy when they start telling you all this stuff.

I’m praying for you dear sister! May the Great Comforter bring you peace before and after your operation. I pray that He guides those involved in your care and surgery and that He place a hedge of protection around you and “amystery,” may He heal you as only He can! those involved.

If your church has a ministry like ours that provides meals for you, get in touch with them if you haven’t already. If you’re blessed with great neighbors like we are, reach out to them! There are many who would love to help you…I know because I’m always asking “is there anything I can do?” Another poster said this but don’t be afraid to say yes!

I will keep you in my prayers! Please let us know!

Hello Y'all! I wanted to let you know that I made it through my surgery and I'm finally back home. I am doing very well, and I believe it is all because of all the prayers I have had said on my behalf. I did end up having to stay in the hospital longer than we expected, almost twice as long in reality. I ended up with an NG tube for three days, which was the most traumatic thing I've ever experienced, but it helped me nonetheless!

The staff loved the basket of treats we had in my room for them, so thank you again for that suggestion!

I am pain free and haven't had to take a pain pill in 9 days! I am being very careful to not overdo it while still getting up and walking. I walked so much in the hospital- more than I do at home even. They said it would help wake my bowels up and praise The Lord, I believe it really did!

I am sleeping in my recliner and miss my bed terribly. In any of y'all's experience, how soon were you able to sleep in your own bed again after surgery? It has been 11 days since my surgery.

They did not have to use staples, and my incision is looking great!

Here is the best part- I am CANCER free!!! They were just two fluid filled cysts. One was the size of a watermelon (!!!) and was attached to my ovary. The other was the size of a grapefruit and was attached to the tail of my pancreas. I did have to lose my spleen (and they removed my gallbladder as well), but my drain from my pancreas is out and that is healing up nicely! I'll have no issues with my pancreas moving forward. I do wish that I could have kept my spleen, but I believe The Lord will see to it that I'll be just fine without it. I only had to lose one ovary- thankfully I did not have to have a full hysterectomy! Everything is working down there too. I found that out while I was in the hospital... such a fun thing to contend with while you're healing in the hospital, but I have to say that I was in awe that my body picked right up and started working again like clockwork! I have to think that is a good sign for me.

I continue to ask for your prayers while I heal, but especially for my husband. His heart started acting up while we were in the hospital during my recovery. He's had some rhythm issues in the past and had an ablation that up until this spell, worked for over a decade. Right now he's on a monitor so his doctor can see what they think the next move should be.

I don't think I have ever mentioned it, but we're both in our early 40's, so we just pray that none of these issue will prevent us from living as long of a life together as we can- our prayer has always been that the Lord would rapture us all home before we have to say goodbye to each other! Wouldn't that just be wonderful! <3
