I usually use Revlon, too. I have tried the more expensive brands but can't tell a difference.
I use to be able to get Revlon 2/$5.

I’m lucky if I can get it for four dollars now. I still have one box left. I color my own hair. I don’t always get it right but at least it’s cheaper than paying $90 plus tip for a “pro” to do it.

I have thin fine straight fly-away hair and use VO5 for oily scalp, and VO5 conditioner, then a leave-in which really helps the fly-away. I've never colored and my dark brown is half silver now. Being a horse person, I think of it as blue roan! I actually like the streaked look and the gray hairs have more body so my hair is actually more manageable now and holds a wave better (notice I didn't say curl, it does NOT hold a curl!). I have always had bangs but am growing them out. They are almost long enough to stay tucked behind my ears, hair is shoulder-length. Because they are so straight and have no body, growing them out has been painful! I use a variety of clips or bobby pins to help me manage them.
