MOSCOW — Former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev warned Thursday that Russia would deploy nuclear weapons close to the Baltic States and Scandinavia if Finland or Sweden decide to join NATO. Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s security council and president from 2008 to 2012, wrote on Telegram that if the countries joined, this would more than double Russia’s land border with NATO members. “Naturally, we will have to reinforce these borders,” he said.

“In this case, it would not be possible to talk any more about the Baltic non-nuclear status. The balance has to be restored,” he said, indicating that Russia would be entitled to deploy nuclear weapons in the region. The former president said Russia would “seriously reinforce its group of ground forces and air defenses and deploy significant naval forces in the Gulf of Finland.”

I think what Finland and Sweden are looking at the Ukraine. Russia just decided that they could move in because they wanted to. What is to stop them from doing that to Finland and Sweden.

Their poorly trained military, and lack of victory against a far weaker Ukraine, shows for now, Russias military is not capable of victory anywhere. Using nukes will only ensure their own destruction.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Russia isn't moving nukes into Cuba and Venezuela right now. I figure they could get away with it now.

The Russians already have nukes at Kaliningrad, Oblast which is in-between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea, which is 330 Miles "As the crows fly" to Stockholm

Eva I think Norway is safe, they are a long established member of NATO and that will protect you along with the other long term members of NATO.

Putin is threatening Sweden and Finland hoping to stop those 2 from becoming NATO members. He views them as "soft" because they never did go for NATO membership even in the Cold War era. He figures he can continue to push them around and use threats to stop them just like Russia did in the old Soviet Union days.

That's the whole point of Putin talking about nukes to those 2.
