NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Monday that Russian plans to supply Syria with an S-300 missile system would be a “significant escalation” by Moscow and that he hopes it will reconsider.

Russia said on Monday it will supply the surface-to-air missile system to Syria in two weeks against strong Israeli objections, a week after Moscow blamed Israel for indirectly causing the downing of a Russian military plane in Syria.

“We think introducing the S-300s to the Syrian government would be a significant escalation by the Russians ... and something that we hope, if these press reports are accurate, they would reconsider,” Bolton told reporters.

“There shouldn’t be any misunderstanding here ... The party responsible for the attacks in Syria and Lebanon and really the party responsible for the shooting down of the Russian plane is Iran,” he said.

Bolton said a political process was needed but said Russia’s plans on the missile system made that difficult. He said U.S. troops would stay active in Syria as long as Iran was involved.

“We’re not going to leave as long as Iranian troops are outside Iranian borders, and that includes Iranian proxies and militias,” he said.

Just as a side note here to the shooting down of the Russian plane there's an article on I24 news that
was entitled "Netanyahu and Putin knock heads" When I tried to go to the article it gave an error message on my computer but enough was said just in the get the idea

Now, I know that Russia gave the s300 and s400 systems to Syria about a year or two ago already. How is this an escalation? Probably replacing stuff the IDF already blew up.

Kind of confusing, isn't it? I think that Russia itself may be operating their s400 at their base(s) in Syria... Just did a little research on the s300 system for Syria and it appears that maybe that delivery never happened... the ones destined for Syria may have gone to Iran instead.

Some were photographed in Syria by some publications I don't consider very reliable, and some were parked there and as far as I know never activated or brought on line so to speak. Putin has said he will deliver the system to Turkey in 2019, but I am doing a wait and see on that. Much can happen to change that timeline.

Watching this closely. This has got to be embarrassing Russia no end because their sales of these systems depends on them being reliable. Buy the anti aircraft missile defense systems, AND the Russian jets they are designed not to harm, and it's a win win.

Except the Syrians used the Russian system, to shoot down Russian jets.

What are the odds China wants their money back.

This is like a giant recall for cars, very expensive for the manufacturers. Even if it was earlier anti aircraft tech that the Syrians used, it wasn't apparently supposed to shoot down Russian jets.

But it's going to be extremely dicey for Israel to go in and take out the factories that are making smart missiles for delivery to Lebanon's Hezbollah, as well as anyone else in the area that wants to buy missiles from Iran, real cheap deal, to aim at Israel.

My thoughts are we are coming up fast to Is 17 and the destruction of Damascus, and it may be the fuse that lights the whole Ez 38 situation on fire.

Yes it seems we are very close, we believers want no war or harm to come but we have been waiting for the shoe to drop, because we know that our redemption draws near.

Putin, Netanyahu knock heads on Syria plane downing

Russia said it would supply the Syrian army with S-300 air defense system

Moscow on Monday announced new security measures to protect its military in Syria as the Kremlin squabbled with Israel over who was to blame for the downing of a Russian plane in the country last week.

In a phone call, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he disagreed with the Israeli version of events concerning the downing of the plane near Latakia, Syria last week, the Kremlin said.

"The information provided by the Israeli military...runs counter to conclusions of the Russian defense ministry," the Kremlin said of the call, adding that the actions of the Israeli pilots had led to the plane being targeted by Syrian air defense systems.

"The Russian side proceeds from the fact that the actions by the Israeli air force were the main reason for the tragedy," a statement said.

Meanwhile, the Israeli premier defended the IDF reports and reiterated that "the responsibility for the unfortunate incident lies with the Syrian army that brought down the plane, and with Iran, whose aggression undermines stability."

He once again expressed condolences over the accident that killed 15 people.

Earlier Monday, Moscow announced new security measures to protect its military in Syria, including supplying the Syrian army with an S-300 air defense system and jamming radars of nearby warplanes.

Putin told Netanyahu that the measures had been taken to prevent any threat to Russian troops in Syria, but Netanyahu apparently voiced his concern in transferring arms to 'irresponsible hands'.

"The prime Minister said that the transfer of advanced weapons systems to irresponsible hands would increase the dangers in the region and that Israel would continue to defend its security and interest," a statement from the prime minister's office said Monday evening.

Russia will "transfer the modern S-300 air defence system to the Syrian armed forces within two weeks," Shoigu said in a televised statement.

The Kremlin said Putin and Assad discussed the additional measures and delivery of the S-300 system on the phone on Monday.

Netanyahu also said that the two agreed to continue their security coordination.

Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton also warned Russia that supplying the weapons would be a "major mistake", denouncing the sale as a "significant escalation" on Monday.

“We think introducing the S-300s to the Syrian government would be a significant escalation by the Russians and something that we hope, if these press reports are accurate, they would reconsider,” Bolton said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that he would bring up the issue with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov at the UN General Assembly this week.

Putin last week had adopted a more conciliatory tone and said the downing was the result of "tragic accidental circumstances".

Last Monday, Syrian air defenses mistakenly shot down a Russian military plane following an Israeli raid in Syria, killing 15 people.

It is such a wonderful, glorious, dangerous, perilous times we live in.
Very anxious to see what happens on the UNGA.
Will someone show up who will make peace with many?
And how about the deal of the century, will it come to pass?
We see everything through a foggy mirror, but one day all will be revealed.

It is my daily prayer it will be soon!
