Report: Fewer Women In Labor Force, Gender Gap Widens In US

"MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A new jobs report shows thousands of Americans are finding work again but the gender gap is less promising.
The United States added 467,000 new jobs in January, but over 1 million women who left the job force in early 2020 have not returned.
An analysis by the National Women’s Law Center shows that while men have regained job losses in the last two years, women are behind, with nearly 1.1 million fewer women in the labor force.
The report shows that of the 2.9 million jobs lost in the economy since February 2020, women account for over 63% of them."

Women have "always" been the ones to take care of everyone else in the family, so when kids out of school due to shut-downs, sick, or quarantine, or elderly not able to get into nursing homes due to no new admits or needing care while sick or getting too old to live alone, etc., "guess" who ends up taking time off or losing or giving up the outside job :doh

I stopped looking for a long time because taking care of elderly parents, but now since vaccines and Mom safely home with Jesus, it was reasonable to go back to paid work, being careful about finding something with reasonably limited exposure to others.

From a Christian eternal perspective, this is a good thing. God has charged the wife and mother with being the keeper at home (Titus 2:5) and up until the last approximately 50 years it was always the mother caring for the family. Perhaps if more mothers were at home now raising their own children, society wouldn't be in such awful shape. (Obviously there needs to be a father also, working to provide for the family.)

I do realize the contribution of women in the work place. My doctor is a woman and I am so grateful for her expertise! If all the women suddenly resigned and went home I know things would fall apart (at least initially) but that's unlikely to happen and children are so much better off being looked after by their own mother.

Also, I do understand the difficulties of a family living on one salary, but many times I have seen God miraculously provide for families committed to following His plan. :nod

You are a good and faithful daughter, and even though you've sacrificed in this life to care for your aging parents, I believe you will be greatly rewarded some day. :hug

Forgive my rant but I am passionate about this... This is 100%. Sad to say, but women going into the workforce was the worst thing that happened to society and to the children. This was :devilish plan from the beginning. Remove mother and let her join father at work chasing the career idol.

Now mom and dad both have to work to bring home the money that dad used to bring home on his own. Where does this leave the children? Sheep to the slaughter.

[Gen 3:17-19 NKJV] 17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed [is] the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat [of] it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you [are], And to dust you shall return."

Notice this was man's burden, not woman's. Now we are both in the same boat, scratching for the same pay. Gotta love "equality" right?

Just like not all are called to be married, not all are called to be parents I would have been a terrible parent. OTOH, it's been very clear that God prepared me in some very identifiable/unique ways for some very specific jobs in some very specific places and times. He would not have blessed me so if it were not His will for me to work outside the home.

There are some jobs that are much better filled by women, simply because of women's unique needs. Examples: OB-GYNs and midwives. I am much, much more comfortable with a woman gyn than a man. Ditto other doctors. With only one exception, by far the best care I have gotten has been from women doctors, etc. Not just their expertise/competence, but because they "got it" in ways that men doctors never can, and this greatly influenced specific aspects of my care. It's also important to have women in rape crisis centers, as police officers, counselors, in the court system, etc., etc., etc. because of the unique needs of sexual assault and domestic abuse victims, who are overwhelmingly female.

Etc.

I agree it's best for mother's to stay at home raising the children and caring for the home. Definitely challenging with one salary though God provides!

Or fathers.

In any case, far, far better a parent(s) or a combination of parents and extended family, instead of paid child care. If unavoidable, some church programs, which provide Bible study and/or playground-type of child socialization in a Christian environment can be very good, and are far preferable to secular or public school-related/sponsored. Some have tutoring services to help children with subjects parents may not be able to help their kids with. In my family, at some point my parents were no longer able to help me with math and science, simply because neither needed calculus, etc. for their professions.

In many families, one parent (usually Mom) stays home at least until the youngest is in Kindergarten or First Grade, and at least one parent is home when children get home from school, or arrives home shortly thereafter.

Some families stagger the parents' work hours so an extended family member or someone else is only there for a short time while parents in transit to/from work. Or work days are staggered, etc. An arrangement that worked well for one poor family that had one vehicle, one parent worked second shift and the other worked third (both low-paying jobs). The house/children were watched for about a half hour during transit time by a neighbor. In reality, since the kids were in bed by the time the switch occurred, even when teenagers, the neighbor wasn't raising the kids. Just there in case of emergency. That particular family homeschooled and sent their children to private Christian school. The second income paid the tuition, curriculum materials, books, etc..

It's time for Christians to take their kids out of public schools. I'm praying more churches create Christian homeschool coops to help lower income families. My church just did this and even here in MA it boomed with parents enrolling their kids. These are desperate times to protect our kids.

The globalist forces wanted the women out of the home because the stats show that women who work outside the home have fewer children. Now, without immigration, all of the countries in the Western nations would have shrinking populations. There are many other problems attendant to taking women out of the home. Men's wages have not increased much at all over past decades and it has forced dependence on women's wages coming into the home.

This part here is the key:

"Now mom and dad both have to work to bring home the money that dad used to bring home on his own."

It's' the fact that, in so many areas of the USA, it takes TWO full time employees to pay the bills.

Pundits like to blame American's proclivity for needing to "buy so many toys" (the adult electronics/auto/hobby kind) and have all the latest "stuff."
this may once have been true for some people, but I don't know anyone who lives like they did back in the 90's when it was all about credit cards and taking out home equity loans to buy ATV's and stupid stuff.

I'm no economist but I would say that the real culprit is the rampant inflation forced on us by the Fed and our govts (ALL of them, yes, the republicans too). I cannot imagine wanting to bring a child into this world because odds are, they will largely be raised by the state and/or persons who are not their family.

One of the two jobs my wife works is as an assistant teacher in a very upscale, Scottsdale, AZ daycare center. The parents are well off (obviously) but you can tell they are angry at the cost they have to pay (daycare costs are rising at rates faster then University tuition while the workers get paid a whole whopping $15/per hour.

In addition, you can tell the parents feel guilty about having to stick their kids in daycare and they often take this out on the staff, being hypervigilant and accusing the teachers (who are overwhelmed) with not providing care that meets their inflated expectations. Turnover is very high as the teachers and even admin staff just break down under the pressure they are put under by the parents and the daycare owners (a couple that owns multiple of these locations throughout the valley). They love Kid$.

It's a trap and it's by design. I too agree, there should be one parent in the home always, ideally the mother. It's a sad situation we are all in now; it's not about hyper consumerism, it's that everything that matters now just costs too much for those who are not the elite.

I agree but I also know God will provide. I have one son and want another. It is tough but I am trusting God to provide for us so I will be home with my children. This means less luxuries and we may not be able to buy a home, but it will all be worth it.

I feel for single parents or widows. I truly believe the answer is Christians and churches uniting to do group homeschooling for the children.

A lot of places, buying a house is cheaper than renting an apartment.

God will provide. I always look back on my life and realize there is no other way I would be where I am. I am not extraordinarily gifted, smart, or talented and I realize that anything I can do is a gift from God. He will guide you especially when your motives are pure and you are seeking Him and what is best for you and your family. It really is amazing. He is amazing how He cares for the smallest details in our lives yet He is all powerful. He never ceases to amaze me. You are blessed in abundance.

Women joining the work force really happened because of WW2. Then after the war ended a lot of women continued to work to buy the things that the war production stopped from being made. The more surplus labor available the less that has to be paid to hire. Wages should start rising.

Yup. I'm a homeschooling mama to 3 school-age kids and have stayed at home since our oldest was born 10 1/2 years ago. The Lord has ALWAYS met our needs. Were/are there some lean days? Yup. But He has always provided. And even now as a widow, the Lord has provided for me to continue homeschooling and staying at home.

All by design to get the children away from the parents into the hands of the government schools. Divide and conquer. Start dumbing down the kids and creating strife in the family.
The churches should be helping the widows and orphans starting with those in the congregation. Probably should add the divorced in there now days as well. Many churches in my opinion have over the years been conquered by the evil one by strife in them. Main concern building the congregation to bring in more money then need larger and better buildings and the people have been neglected spiritually.

They must have not been watching and reading the news reports.......men are women and women are men.......so the title of the report is wrong???? The truth is that there are less people in the work force and the wage gap has widened, same for the rich vs poor gap.

There are still congregations that are doing this. Big, medium, and small. Urban, suburban, and rural. Rich and poor. Many different denominations.

It helps if a congregation plans ahead for growth and/or changing missions/needs because it's easier to finish unfinished areas, rearrange things, etc. than build expansions and new buildings, buy new shelves and furniture, etc. Basements and flex space that can be used for multiple/changing things, extra (closed off) classrooms and offices, over-shelving the library when first building/setting up, etc. come to mind. Good quality from the get-go means some things will last "forever" and save $$$$$ in the long run. Huge example: getting real library shelving means "never" replacing it (barring disaster or failure to maintain it). Also stuff with multiple uses.
