Putin says Russia will make new missiles, warns of arms race

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia would produce missiles that were banned under a landmark Cold-War era nuclear pact that ended last month, but that Moscow would not deploy them unless the United States did so first.

Speaking at an economic forum in Russia’s Far East, Putin said Moscow had urged the United States to de-escalate a spiraling arms race between the former Cold War foes, but that Washington had not responded.
The Russian leader said he was concerned by U.S. talk of deploying missiles in Japan and South Korea, a deployment he said would cover parts of Russian territory.
Tensions over nuclear arms control have been rising after Washington formally pulled out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) pact last month accusing Russia of violating it, allegations Moscow denied.I

Putin had been routinely violating the INF treaty, Obama never objected so I'm sure in Putin's twisty little brain, this upstart Trump guy shouldn't either.

Trump comes along and starts putting a consequence on Putin for his actions. And he does it in a measured way. I think it was back in January or Feb. that Trump warned Putin to cut out the nonsense or America would back out of the INF Treaty.

They didn't quit, so as Trump pointed out SEVERAL TIMES, starting in that warning he gave in Jan or so, that there was NO POINT IN AMERICA weakening itself abiding by the terms of the INF Treaty if Russia wasn't going to abide by it either.

So Putin put speed on his programs. And look what happened this summer. Not one but TWO NUCLEAR ACCIDENTS happened.

One is sort of murky, it happened under the sea in July, killed some officers on board an undersea vessel of some type, which then had to be towed to it's home port. There was an odd little bit of news that it was doing something to undersea cables that handle the internet traffic, but nobody knows for sure and if Russia allowed that tidbit of news out, they did so to obscure some other purpose that vessel was in the water off Norway's Arctic coast.

We will never know for sure. But then another accident in August, blew several nuclear techs to their deaths in the sea around the research facility that wasn't supposed to have nuclear anything. Except even Russian media couldn't stop the news getting out. It was a missile with some kind of nuclear motor and very unstable and unsafe.

What are the things that look like these accidents have in common? Other than both involve Russian nuclear equipment?

It's what Granny used to say: The hurrier you go, the behinder you get.

When you rush to complete something deadly, bad stuff is likely to happen.

Putin's been RUSHING to get stuff ready. He figured he'd have more time if Hilary won the election. She was Obama 2.0, sloppier, lazier and more inclined to let Russia do whatever it wanted as long as it didn't interfere with her presidency. Obama had his hot microphone moment with Putin promising him something "after I get reelected this fall" and Hilary just loved her "reset button" moment with the Russian ambassador.

Russia loved Hilary enough to help out with that Steele "document" that tried to paint Trump in such a bad light. Russia doesn't like Trump. Russia would prefer a useful idiot like Hilary.

Unfortunately for Putin, TRUMP got elected, and he started putting the pressure on his science teams, and military development specialists.

I can't help thinking those accidents were a direct result of Putin putting the pressure on.

But the OTHER thing that last accident in August showed was that he was WELL underway with developing missile tech that would have been banned by the INF Treaty.

In fact in the news reports in August, the various news services quoted a speech he'd made in response to Trump's early warning about the INF Treaty in which he showed his new missile exploding somewhere in Florida.

Putin's been busy all along.

Trump just ripped apart the lies and said if Putin isn't going to abide by the INF Treaty, NEITHER SHOULD AMERICA.

Trump is right!

Putin has this Russia thing in his psyche that compels him to be a threat to the world that is feared by all. That's his goal of realizing the old Mother Russia (USSR) existence that he longs for. He is total KGB and will probably never let go of that. So he does the new missile thing, new PAK FA fighter jet that he's having problems producing. But it's to create the Soviet counter to the western beliefs and status quo. That seems to be where he gets his satisfaction.

Why build missiles and not deploy them? The Russkies are desperately short of cash. This sounds like more blustering than truth by VP.
True. That's what I've understood because he always announces his new weapon to the world, whatever it is, to be a little bragadocious about their tech being "on the edge." That's why they publicized their new hypersonic weapon last time.
