Promises from God

I’ve been doing a Bible study recently and a lot of the study has been focused on the faithfulness of God to fulfill his promises he has made to us. I’ve never received a promise from God and it’s troubling me. I know I share in the promises we have from the Bible. The promise of salvation, the promise of heaven, etc. But this study is talking about a specific promise God has made to us and how he is faithful. The latest example was Simeon and the promise the Holy Spirit gave to him that he would not die until he saw the Messiah. I struggle with not having a promise…does anyone else feel like this?

Speaking from my own experience - at the church I was part of as a new believer - huge emphasis was placed on receiving a personal ‘Word from the Lord’. I was always praying for a ‘special word’ or some other supernatural sign and seeking for it almost like a fix.

Nowadays, and I no longer attend nor would I a church such as this, I find daily reading through my Bible (The Word) is more than enough to build my faith, keep me close to God and to keep me growing in my knowledge of God. Over time as I persevere in this the rewards are far greater and of richer substance than when I was chasing God with an external focus if that makes sense. I still pray about anything and everything, but a lot more about God giving me a better understanding about something I’ve been reading in my Bible - and I find those questions get answered - some relatively quickly, and some over much longer periods of time.

He promised me that He would never leave me or forsake me. I believe it applies to you as well.

Promises:

Matthew 10:32
“Therefore, everyone who will acknowledge Me before men, I will also acknowledge him before My Father in heaven.

Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 16:18
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the forces of Hades will not overpower it.

John 4:14
But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again—ever! In fact, the water I will give him will become a well of water springing up within him for eternal life.”

John 6:37
Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out

John 6:40
For this is the will of My Father: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

John 6:54
Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day

John 14:3
If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also

John 14:16
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.

John 14:18
I will not leave you as orphans; I am coming to you.

John 16:22
So you also have sorrow now. But I will see you again. Your hearts will rejoice, and no one will rob you of your joy.

John 6:39
This is the will of Him who sent Me: that I should lose none of those He has given Me but should raise them up on the last day.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to humanity. God is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape so that you are able to bear it.

2 Thessalonians 3:3
But the Lord is faithful; He will strengthen and guard you from the evil one.

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Philippians 1:6
I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

John 10:28
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand.

Romans 8:37-39 Holman Christian Standard Bible
37 No, in all these things we are more than victorious through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers, things present or things to come, hostile powers,
39 height or depth, or any other created thing will have the power to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!

When Jesus says "I Will", its a Promise you can trust without hesitation.

Many of these I Will's are independent of us. Christ will do what He says in His time.

But a some of His I Will's ... depend upon one thing: Us believing in Him, believing He Will do what He has said.

Perhaps that is what makes salvation so hard to accept for many.

You just need to surrender yourself, your pride, and trust Christ.
The Work has already been done.
The Gift only has to be received and opened.

Sanctification is then a life that says Thank You.
