Prices Already Rising

I have noticed that as well. Especially Basmati rice and Spam. We started stocking up in Feb of 2020. Felt something was up. Gas here in middle Tennessee is about $2.19. Expect it to go up bigly with the executive order to shut down pipeline. We are retired now but those who work and are trying to feed their families plus pay bills are going have a rough time. We are thankful to be in Tennessee now. Cost of living is low compared to Indianapolis.
My husband and I are looking at land down there.....planning on moving from Wisconsin when he retires in a couple of years.

Might plant peppers in planters on the deck this year. They've been getting more and more expensive, and we go through about 2 of each of the 4 basic colors of bell peppers every week. Sometimes more :eek Won't help in the winter, though.

Wonder if I'll still get 4 different colors, or if they'll cross pollinate to some mixture or the dominant color if they're that close together :rolleyes

Heirloom open pollinated so I can save seeds if I have to . . .

By increasing the min wage price to $ 15 it will have a severe impact on the medical community here in Florida. People that are nursing assistants, EMT's, phlebotomists, medical assistants, etc. make about $15 an hour. Who would want to deal with sick patients when they can stock shelves at WalMart for the same wages?
This was EXACTLY what I thought! I know you’re in FL. I’m in a rural state. Nursing assistants make $12 an hour in my hospital. Starting out. LPNS start at $17.00 an hour and our LPNs can do a lot!! They can start IVs, give IV meds., etc.

If a fast food place wanted to charge me for condiments, it would be the last time I ate there. I haven't eaten at a taco bell in over a year, but I use 8 or 9 packages of their fire sauce on each bean burrito. I figure I've paid for the condiments with the price paid for the food. For sit down Mexican restaurants I usually bring my own favorite hot sauce in case they don't have any of the good stuff.
I take my own ketchup at places that don’t have Heinz!!! Lol!

Serving in medical, emergency services, etc. has intangible rewards. Most of the medical people I've interacted with at the VA here like what they do and the people they work with.

Working for places like Walmart often sucks. For a long time, Walmart and a lot of other places have been reducing people's hours to part time to avoid paying benefits. And working conditions are often terrible. I've been in Walmarts during overnight hours and the music was loud it was like a club, and it was nothing but porn, sex, violence, drugs, satanic, etc. :puke

Working in the medical field can be very rewarding but you will see things that would make many people faint from fear! I never worked for the VA and if I could go back in time I would have tried to get a job working with Vets, and it would be a lot more tame than a regular hospital. I had several friends who got jobs at the VA so they could have less stress and a more pleasant environment to work in. I worked in ICU/Trauma and floated in the ER many times at community hospitals. If you work at Walmart you don't have to do the following: Put a dead person in a body bag, do CPR on a regular basis, get cursed out/hit/scratched/kicked, etc as many patients are confused in the ICU, bed side surgeries, Gun shot wounds, motor vehicle accidents,blood/urine/feces/bodily fluids, drug overdoes, prisoners, people with deadly virus or diseases, etc. I have actually seen someones brains blown out! I am sure working at Walmart is no picnic but it really does take a very THICK SKIN to work in the medical field. All those people that you see in Walmart that are drunk or stoned eventually end up in the hospital at some point, and they behave the same way at the hospital.

I've found the most dangerous place to order a burger is in a restaurant that markets itself as more upscale. Why? Because it's probable they won't have regular mustard for my burger... they'll only have gray poupon or some other type of fancy mustard that is obviously above my bloodlines because I don't like any of it... and me, a son of the King of kings! In Mexican restaurants I've seen the servers do double takes when my bottle of hot sauce that I brought with me is on the table. At an upscale restaurant (where I almost never find myself) they might not appreciate seeing a lowly bottle of French's Mustard setting atop their white table cloth covered table.

I was down to my last four coffee filters, shocked to pay nearly $8.00 for a pack of 100 last night. I think the last pack just finished was about $4.50 or so, bought 30-50 days ago.

Something tells me we might not be making as many paddling trips to the coast this coming summer. Which burns my biscuits.

Bless you. We have several nurses in the family and I've heard some heartbreaking stories. There have been times when I needed to step away from the story alone. But nurses and medical professionals are stalwart and they have my undying respect. I cannot imagine the impact of vicarious trauma. May you and yours be refreshed constantly in the Lord.

Thank you for what you do. Every time I see an ambulance, I think of the EMS, ER, ICU/trauma, and morgue workers that I interacted with as a cop. You guys are awesome :smile

I think all hospitals have the same thing to a greater or lesser degree, depending on private/public, location, and trauma care level.

The VA emergency room, ICU, spinal cord unit, and wuhan virus, medical, cancer, and psych wards can be :eek so you may or may not have seen/experienced the same, or possibly worse, at the VA. It would have depended on which VA, and which ward or clinic. There are some very nice places to work in at least some VA hospitals, as well as some incredibly horrific ones.
