His sermon was what prompted me to make this poll :laugh

I remember hearing JVMcGee talk about it but I cant remember what his thoughts were. :hmmm

Anyway I think we are all prone to assume he had "left" the faith.
Well , he left the ministry.
Also , what matters is what does the Bible say,
not what a particular preacher/teacher believes.

Many on here believe what Matthew Henry has said about things .
Off the top of my head , he believes the rider in Revelation 6:2 is Jesus!
Well, he is wrong.

Many put to much stock into what others say.
Many put to much stock into what commentaries say, including books and videos.
Commentaries are not inerrant nor infalliable.
Not saying they are not useful nor helpful , they
can be , but they should not be the final authority .

Our attitude should ALWAYS be, what does the Word of God say.

We have the complete Word of God and the indwelling of The Holy Spirit.

Um, I know this, brother. :scratch The word is very important to me.
I do take offense at you saying this.

But teachers and preachers can and do shed light in ways I haven't thought of before.

And not to mention many long time believers on this forum disagree on meaning of certain passages. They also take the word seriously.

My post wasn't directed towards you personally.
Not sure why you or anyone would be offended.

Some people get offended easy.

I personally can’t make a judgment call on Demas salvation, I hope he was.

Col 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
Phm 1:24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers. Probably written around 60 A.D.
2Ti 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. Probably written around 67 or 68 A.D.

When I look at the Parable of the Sower.

Lk 8:12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Lk 8:13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Lk 8:14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
Lk 8:15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

I personally believe the first 3 our unbeliever and the seed that fell on the good ground is the believer.

We know James 2:14-26 says “Faith Without Works Is Dead”
If they walk like a duck, if they look like a duck, if they quack like a duck, it’s a good chance they are a duck.

No, not easily. You implied I put Mens words above Gods word and that is the opposite of true if you knew anything of my post history.
He did give us pastors and teachers for a reason.

False.
Once again , I did not imply you did anything.
Is your name Many?
No, it isn't.
Also, I didn't say "put mens words above God".
Nothing in post #23 was personal , that is why I used the word many so there would be no misunderstanding .

I have yet to see any member ever post a commentary, or article from a bible teacher, and claim that as the final authority.

I never claimed they did.
I just said they( commentaries) shouldn't be.
I stated many put to much stock in them.
And they do.

My post was pretty clear.
One should not try to create something that isn't there .
No reason for this.

Brother you were speaking directly toward my quoted post when you wrote this. It can't be taken any other way. :nope

Anyway, I'm not going to argue about it anymore since I have I believe it becomes unfruitful. I will just agree to diagree.

Friend , my post was not directed at anyone in particular.
I know your history enough to know you don't do that.
