Points to Ponder - FAITH

One of the most mis-guided and mis-understood doctrines of Christianity is the teaching (or lack thereof) about faith. As disciples of Christ we need to recognize deceptive teachings, such as the "word of faith movement" and their false teachers telling us that we can have whatever we want if we just believe hard enough or big enough. Various cults teaching that we have sickness in our bodies because we don't have enough faith to avoid it or get rid of it. We even have an "International School of Supernatural Ministry" that claims to be able to teach you how "You too can heal the sick and raise the dead!" by commanding God to do so, all by having and exercising enough faith. It all sounds so spiritual, but is it Biblical? 2 Timothy 4:3-4 says “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
Ponder the following points:
WHAT IS IT? It is the invisible trust we have in God’s promise until fulfilled - Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
WHERE DOES IT COME FROM? It is given by God - Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
WHY DO WE NEED IT? It is the only way to please God - Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
WHO IS THE SOURCE OF IT? Jesus - Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; …
WHEN IS IT TO BE USED? Daily - Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” and Galatians 2:20 …the life that I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God.
HOW DOES ONE GET FAITH? It comes by hearing the living Word of God - Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Jesus is the object, the author, the giver, the example of and the voice of faith. It is not enough to believe IN God. The demons do likewise and tremble (James 2:19). We must believe God; believe what He tells us in the scriptures, hear His voice, (John 10:27) and then not harden our hearts (Hebrews 3:7,8,15). We can move mountains by faith, but only when Jesus directs us to do so, and when He does, we trust Him to do the moving. The will of God is accomplished by His faith. We don’t command the will of God by claiming the power of our own faith.

Now go ponder how this applies to you. It only takes a lifetime.

Being a simple guy, there's a general definition I like to use: "trusting in God." It says so many times in the Bible to "trust in the Lord" as well as Jesus saying "have faith in God.":D
