I don't have any children, so how do you know what size sneakers to get for the 10-14 age group (girls)? Or sizes in general?
I was going to order boxes on line, but it appears you have to order in bulk, and I don't need 100 boxes! But I want to know where they went so I got the labels with bar codes.

I have never done them before so I am very excited. I can't wait to start picking out my gifts.

I don't have children either, so I just grabbed two sizes. One was a size 8 and the other a size 6. God will send them to the right girls. I'm bad about being indecisive, so I figured He had to be there picking those sneakers out otherwise I'd still be there this morning staring at them!

I saw that too about the online boxes, and thought the same thing! I got a little nuts and thought I'd do 100 but then I came back to reality.

I will definitely pray over my boxes to make sure they get to the "right" child. I decided I would do four. When I considered how many items can actually be crammed into one shoebox, I narrowed it down, too! I didn't want to get in over my head. I emailed my sister and asked if she would like to do two of them; I hope she agrees. I haven't heard back yet!

I'm doing four as well. I can always add more since I managed to start so early this year. I'm surprised by how much you can get in a box too! I asked my mom if she wanted to do any, but she said she'd rather make the menstrual pads, which is fine by me as I hate to sew. I hope your sister agrees too. :)

I'm finished with my boxes except for the arrival of the soccer balls. My husband looked at my pile of stuff, looked at the boxes, and said I was going to need a bigger box. Hahah (think Jaws, folks). I'll post a pic soon of the stuff all spread out. I'm definitely doing more in the next couple of months.

The cashier at Wmart told me a lady went through recently with supplies for FIFTY boxes she and her kids were doing!

At First Baptist Church, Atlanta, I saw people unloading so many boxes that they filled the back and the trunks of their cars! I can believe that someone was purchasing supplies for 50 boxes.

I love to hear that kind of thing! After going a little crazy with just four boxes myself and plans to do more, I decided this lady started out with a box limit but things got out of hand quickly and she just went with it, lol.

I did two boxes and my sister did one. I had a lot of fun; she hated it! Since these were my first ones I made a lot of mistakes and had to redo a lot of things, but I got them done in time. Since I now know better what to do, I am starting much earlier next year and doing more. I dropped them off at First Baptist Atlanta and I did the ones where you can track them. I can't wait to find out what country/ies they went to!

That video was powerful! :thumbsup My grandchildren and I do this every year. They're 12 and 10 years old and enjoy it a lot. This year, we watched some video clips on Youtube of the children opening their boxes. Lots of kids in the US, Australia, etc. have no idea that some of the children who receive the boxes have never in their whole lives even had a bouncy ball or a doll or a flashlight.

We do this every year. I always try to add practical things but then I add something special.

Our church did a little over 500 this year because the bus kids wanted to be involved.

They're low income/homeless children that we bring to church three times a week. Many of these beautiful children had saved a present they'd received the year before and sent that to a more needy child.

I always include silk scarves for the mothers. You can buy them in bulk for a minimal amount on eBay.

I've never tracked mine but I think I'll do that next year!

Even though I've done this before I also made a lot of mistakes and had to redo some things. I also got too much stuff to fit into one shoebox, so I had to buy another shoebox then more stuff for that.

My mom got involved by sewing some flannel sanitary napkins and a little plastic zipper purse to keep them in.

I wanted to track mine but forgot! Phooey!

I got email from Samaritans Purse about my shoeboxes. They are going to Burkina Faso in West Africa. I am so happy to know where they are and I can pray for the kids there. The email said that 45% of the kids there are 14 years old and younger.

Edit: 45% of the population are kids 14 and under.

I did four this year. I did two for boys 5-9 and one for a girl 10-14 and one for a boy 10-14. I put cloth pads in the girl's box. Something else that I put in the 10-14 boxes is one of the hand crank radio/flashlights that they sell for emergencies and camping.

I've volunteered with Operation Christmas Child for about 20 years. If anyone has any questions regarding this ministry, I'd be happy to answer your questions. I've had the opportunity to speak with Franklin Graham personally about this great ministry and I have worked in their mega processing centers as an inspector. My job is to remove any and all restricted items from the boxes and to "maintain the integrity of each box". This means that whatever YOU place in your box, remains in your box. Samaritan's Purse believes that God will place each box with just the right child, and I agree with that wholeheartedly.

Operation Christmas Child has many year-round volunteer opportunities within your local communities. If anyone is interested in those positions, just let me know.
