NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday demanded Moscow prove it is complying with a landmark Cold War nuclear arms reduction treaty, as concerns grow over a new Russian missile system.

Washington has complained for nearly two years that a ground-launched missile system deployed by Russia breaches the 1987 Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF).

NATO defense ministers will discuss the issue at a two-day meeting in Brussels, after the alliance's July summit declaration said the Russian 9M729 missile system raised "serious concerns".

Stoltenberg said the 1987 accord signed by US president Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev remained a "cornerstone of European security".

"We are very serious about our concerns and very serious when we call on Russia to comply with the INF treaty in a transparent and verifiable way," Stoltenberg said, adding that Moscow had long denied the missile even existed.

"Now they have admitted the missile exists and therefore we have called on them to answer our questions. As long as they don't answer our questions, the most plausible solution is that this is a violation of the INF treaty."

NATO leaders raised concerns about the Russian 9M729 missile system and urged Moscow to engage in dialogue to ensure the future of the INF treaty, which abolished a whole class of missiles with a range of between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.

Russia won't do a thing towards peace or treaties unless they feel they are in a weakened state. That is the only reason Reagan and Gorbachev signed that accord in 1987 and Putin has long been a critic of Gorbachev for that and has been very public in his dislike of the weakened nature of Russia for decades after. He blames the West. Hilary Clinton was his president of choice because they had her so well bugged with all her stupidity as Sec of State, that Russia and China knew what she ate for breakfast. Trump scares Putin, so there is a certain amount of activity here that in Putin's eyes is protection from the West.

Russia is feeling stronger than ever with their success in taking over Syria such as it is. Putin still seems respectfully cautious of Trump but if the midterms weaken Trumps hold on things in Washington, expect Russia to sound louder, ruder and more belligerent than ever.

I think POTUS has a face to face meeting with Putin scheduled for 11/11/2018. Let us begin to pray for that meeting!
