'Your order is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination'

A federally recognized Native American tribe is demanding President Joe Biden's administration immediately rescind or amend a new policy that temporarily suspends new oil and natural gas leases and drilling permits on federal land.
The letter continued, "Your order is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination. Indian lands are not federal public lands. Any action on our lands and interests can only be taken after effective tribal consultation."
"Order No. 3395 violates the United States treaty and trust responsibilities to the Ute Indian Tribe and violates important principles of tribal sovereignty and self-determination. Your order was also issued in violation (of) our government-to-government relationship. Executive Order No. 13175 on Consultation and Coordination with Indian Tribal Governments, and Interior's own Policy on Consultation with Tribal Governments," the letter added.

Good, let them blame and “torch” Biden now for everything instead of Trump!

It’s both sad but kinda hilarious how quickly so many diverse groups are demonstrating ”Biden Remorse”...

...especially funny when you realize that, with a few exceptions, the things that his former supporters are turning on him for are EXACXTLY the Same things he told them he would do if elected POTUS.

I struggle to feel any sympathy for people who voted for him and lost their jobs or suddenly realize fuel is going up as are their taxes. The flesh part of me thinks “If you voted for this globalist shill, you do not get to complain and not expect to get seriously mocked for it.“

I empathize with the people who voted against him but still get hurt by his policies.

The Ute tribe produces about 45,000 barrels of crude oil per day in the Uintah basin, along with about 900 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, according to a document it filed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 2017.
The secretarial order issued on Jan. 20 - Biden’s first day in office - suspended the authority of Interior Department offices to issue new fossil fuel permits and leases - a move that could be a first step in delivering on Biden’s campaign promise to ban all new federal drilling permits. While some Native American tribes have been vocal opponents of fossil fuel development others are drilling the vast oil and coal reserves on their land. The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara nation in North Dakota, for example, are also big producers of oil and gas.
Bottom line is this would mean the Ute Indian tribe will loose millions, not to mention all the people who work there may find themselves looking for other work

It's funny how they advocate so heavily on behalf of the people they also heavily oppress. Any time these people start with this "we" nonsense they do this.

Biden admin. says tribes exempt from drilling freeze after Utes decry order as 'direct attack'

The Biden administration said that its freeze on oil-and-gas leasing approvals does not apply to tribal lands after a Utah tribe ripped the department for what it called a “direct attack” on its economy and sovereignty.
“The approval process outlined in the Secretarial Order for oil and gas activities does not apply to tribal and individual Indian trust lands,” an Interior Department spokesperson said in an email to The Washington Times.
The statement came after Luke Duncan, chairman of the Ute Indian Tribe Business Committee, fired off a Jan. 21 letter asking acting Interior Secretary Scott de la Vega for an exemption from his order suspending for 60 days any agency approvals for leasing and permitting on federal lands.

Well you gotta expect the new totalitarian regime to blunder about some while getting used to issuing sweeping decrees. Crushing the livelihoods of Native American tribes is still a no no, not so much for pipeline workers and companies, small business owners and other non-entitlment groups.
