SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is repealing rules unveiled in 2015 that banned baptisms for children of gay parents and made gay marriage a sin worthy of expulsion.

The surprise announcement Thursday by the faith widely known as the Mormon church reverses rules that triggered widespread condenmations from LGBTQ members and their allies.

The church in a statement says it isn't changing its doctrinal opposition to gay marriage and still considers same-sex relationships to be a "serious transgression."

But people in same-sex relationships will no longer be considered "apostates" who must be kicked out of the religion.

The change also marks the biggest move yet by church President Russell M. Nelson, who has made a flurry of changes since taking over the faith in January 2018.

Unless your religion is ruled by God instead of men you will occasionally be required to experience cognitive dissonance. Mormons, Catholics, Watchtowerites, Seventh Day legalists are all doing it daily.

I grew up in a heavily Mormon area. The Mormon people are an amazing American phenomenon. The embodiment of American values and pride, they live in super supportive and highly socialized wards. Their support and family friendly programs are the envy of most governments.

They just have one problem. Information is readily available and conclusive that their beliefs are built on a lie. There isn’t one discipline of science that can carry water for what Joseph Smith dreamed up. Archeologists have never found the famed cities from the BOM. Genetics has never found the North American hebrew link. Even the BOM has gone through so many revisions that early copies are no longer authorized for use. Any Mormon that stays in the system is staying for the love they have for the people and the system that ties them all together. If you have never heard of any credible or effective LDS apologists, stop wondering why. Nobody wants that job. It would be more fun to be a traffic cone.

If all Mormons just stopped, threw out their books and practices, all sat down together and started reading.....In the beginning...... God would speak to them.

More willing to follow a man than follow God and hope the man is right?
Sounds like a lot of "religions".
And almost every human being is conditioned the same way at birth.
