Police in Tennessee said 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly is suspected of shooting and killing four people in Memphis
By Louis Casiano , Andrea Vacchiano | Fox News

Police in Memphis, Tennessee, arrested a 19-year-old repeat offender suspected of shooting and killing four people and injuring at least three others in a rampage on Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect, Ezekiel Kelly, is also suspected of two armed carjackings that happened as he attempted to flee from police. Authorities said the rampage was spread across at least eight different crime scenes.

The string of shootings were reportedly recorded on Facebook in the city Wednesday. The suspect was taken into custody following a major manhunt later that evening.

Police confirmed to Fox News Digital that he was arrested after crashing a stolen car near the area of Ivan Road and Hodge Road. Memphis police had urged residents in that area to shelter in place. That order was lifted after he was arrested.

Police said multiple felony charges are pending against Kelly, who has a previous criminal history. Mayor Jim Strickland revealed during a press conference that Kelly was charged with attempted first-degree murder but pled guilty to a downgraded aggravated assault charge in April 2021.

Kelly was sentenced to three years in prison, but was released in March 2022 after serving just 11 months of his sentence – a release that Mayor Strickland denounced on Wednesday night.

"These evil actions show why truth in sentencing is a must, and we should do all we can to make our city safe," Strickland asserted. "We must unite around this principle and stand up to the challenge of violent crime in our city."

"If Mr. Kelly served his full three-year sentence, he would still be in prison today and four of our fellow citizens would still be alive," the mayor added.

I'm sure the bleeding heart liberals in Memphis pleaded to let this guy go back in 2021. The last sentence is a very hard truth to deal with for the liberals. They have blood on their hands.

Jim Strickland (born October 22, 1963[1]) is an American attorney and politician who is the 64th and current mayor of Memphis, Tennessee, serving since 2016. A Democrat,[2] he previously served as a member of the Memphis City Council. Strickland is also an adjunct professor at the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.

After being first elected to the City Council in October 2007, Strickland was re-elected in October 2011. In 2013, he was elected to serve as Vice Chairman and was the Chairman of the Council for 2014.[3]

On January 15, 2015, Jim Strickland announced his plan to run for mayor. Throughout his campaign, Strickland focused on crime, poverty, and blight throughout Memphis.[6]

6 years later and crime is rampant in Memphis as his city is in the news twice in a week for murders. First the female jogger and now this.

When are people going to learn that being soft on crime does not pay?!!! :doh

They won’t learn. They will just blame it on the guns.

Makes me so mad when they do that. I'm pro-gun rights. I believe gun laws only take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, not criminals.
I remember when Oregon made Marijuana legal. The number1 argument was "making drugs illegal doesn't do anything because people will do it anyway"...... But somehow making guns illegal is different :twitch:rolleyes3:doh

I'm pretty sure the ones behind the soft-on-crime policies know the effect their policies are having, and knew what the effect would be from the beginning. It isn't like crime and the justice systems that are supposed to stop it just began recently; this dynamic is as old as civilization, and people did learn how to deal with it, a long time ago.

In addition to a functioning justice system, one of the best known ways to stop crime is for potential victims to have the means and the will to stop it. It isn't a coincidence that the same ones who fail to stop the crime with government power use that same power to stop the victims from stopping it. They do this in two ways: 1, by disarming them, and 2, by tying their hands with the threat of false prosecutions, as they did with Kyle Rittenhouse for example; in this way they take away both the means and the will of victims to defend themselves.

Add to this the rejection of God coupled with the dogma of moral relativism that has been programmed into masses of indoctrinated cattle, along with the breakup of the family, and add in envy, jealousy, and race and class hatred, and you have a formula for mass lawlessness, including murder. If it's ok for a mother to kill the baby she carries, why isn't it also ok to kill people just because you hate them, or even just because feel like it?

Before 1968 you could buy a gun mail order, with no background check and no dealer involved. And we didn't have this kind of crime then. What changed since then was not more "guns on the streets" to use that slogan; what changed is rampant liberalism having been unleashed on our society. This should be self evident, to anyone who has been paying attention.

Creating disorder and the mass fear it results in is a good way to lead people to give ever more power to their big brother in government. I am convinced that this is the reason those holding power in these crime-ridden areas aid and abet crime all they can.
