I read a article that was published in National Geographic about the Disappearing Coastline of Louisiana. I actually found and read the article a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. I felt like I was reading a After Action Report. It was detailed in what order the levees would fail in New Orleans in the event a Cat 3-4 Hurricane hitting Lake Ponchatrain, especially if this happened at a high tide.Praying for Susan and Caligal and all our members caught in the path of this storm. @Andy C I remember you served in the terrible days after Katrina hit. Praying for you all. My heart goes out to you all down there. Praying!!!! God have mercy on the people.

It specified how high the storm surge would be and the Wards that would flood and in what order they would flood. I’m like wow this is a really intense After Action Report. That is when I discovered this article was written a couple of years before Hurricane Katrina hit. The entire article was a What if worse case scenario, and it played out in real time exactly like they knew beforehand it would.
The data compiled in the article was from studies done by the Corp of Engineers, LSU, and FEMA. From their own studies they knew what would happen if a Hurricane the magnitude of Katrina hit.
This proved the fact that the Governor of Louisiana and the Mayor of New Orleans played politics to make President Bush look bad.
This article was on National Geographic’s website for a few weeks. It was actually published in a issue of their magazine. A few weeks after I read it I went back to find it because I was going to print a copy of it. The article had been removed.
Praying for you, your family and others in the path. Stay safe. Now weather service is saying Ida will strike Louisiana coast as a cat 4 possibly a cat 5. Obviously this storm is nothing to play around with. We live in a small town just north of Baton Rouge - right smack in the path of this storm. Well generator and plenty of gas is ready to go. At least a/c refrigerator and freezer will be ok. No doubt Sunday night into Monday is going to be quite interesting!!
Unbelievable. Another foolish mayor who knows the levees aren't high enough https://weather.com/news/news/2019-04-15-new-orleans-levees-rebuilt-no-protectionMayor Cantrell in NOLA is not issuing mandatory evacuations for NOLA. This is going to be horrific. Lafayette is showing to be on the “good” side of this, to the west, but the track could change. I am in Lafayette and am praying for all of us in the path of this monster.
I disagree. No one should ever be forced to leave their home. It’s their choice to stay. The people have been well informed. It’s up to those to get out if they choose. The government should be helping evacuate any that need the help.Unbelievable.
