Iran rejects ‘baseless’ G7 accusations over fatal attack on Mercer Street tanker
‘It is not a new thing that the Zionist regime would design such conspiracies,’ claims Iranian spokesperson after foreign ministers say Tehran is threat to international peace

Iran on Saturday rejected “baseless” G7 allegations its drones were used in a deadly tanker attack, while accusing Israel of engaging in a conspiracy in a bid to undermine Tehran. Tehran has strongly denied having any link to the July 29 attack on the MT Mercer Street, an oil products tanker managed by a firm owned by an Israeli billionaire, but has faced an increasing wave of accusations in recent days from Israel, the United States and Britain, as well as other countries. A British security guard and a Romanian crew member were killed in the attack.

“We strongly condemn the baseless statement by the foreign ministers of the G7 and the European Union’s high representative for foreign affairs in which they have directed baseless accusations at the Islamic Republic of Iran,” foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said in a statement. The tanker attack and the accusations against Iran were a manufactured “scenario” with a “notable” timing, he said, as they came before Iran’s new President Ebrahim Raisi took the oath of office.

Here's a thought, perhaps the unusual coincidence of happenings off the coast of Oman at this time, first the Mercer Street UAV event blamed on Iran, and then the 6 ships losing positioning event with implications of Iran involvement, and then the Iranian military hijacking one of the ships event, is all a ruse that has as its focus the JCPOA, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. Iow, Israel and its allies (US, UK) may be putting pressure on Iran to the effect that its future security relies on it giving up completely any plans of advancing their nuclear program.
Gantz: Iran is 10 weeks from breakout to a nuclear weapon - The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com)

Tehran will be able to break out to a nuclear weapon within 10 weeks, Defense Minister Benny Gantz told diplomats from UN Security Council member states on Wednesday as tensions ratcheted up between Iran and the international community over its maritime attacks.

“Iran has violated all of the guidelines set in the JCPOA [nuclear agreement] and is only around 10 weeks away from acquiring weapons-grade materials necessary for a nuclear weapon,” Gantz warned.

“Therefore,” he added, “it is time to act. The world must apply economic sanctions and take operative action against the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps,” which has targeted shipping vessels.

In recent weeks, top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and Gantz have expressed alarm to the US and others that Iran is taking advantage of a long pause in negotiations to return to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to dramatically advance its nuclear program.

I’m surprised Israel hasn’t retaliated yet. Although, keeping Iran in suspense and having to wait for a response probably has them nervous about how Israel will respond and when. Hopefully, it will be something punishing.

I'm not surprised imo Israel would leave things to the last minute with Iran.

As I guessed, Israel is backing off retaliation, perhaps the evidence was not strong enough to convince the UN? But apparently the restraint is also towards Hezbollah?

After Dramatic Two Weeks in MidEast, Israel Showing Restraint — For Now

TEL AVIV: After a two week stretch that saw drones linked to Iran attack a ship in the Gulf of Oman, another tanker in the region suffer an attempted hijacking, and rockets fired towards Israel from Lebanon, the Israeli government has decided not to launch any major military actions against Iran or its proxies.
