Ilhan Omar roasted for saying Earth broke heat record last set in 117,977 BC

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was roasted online after she tweeted Monday evening that the Earth broke a record for hottest day in 120,000 years. Omar, who used the tweet to call for a "climate emergency" declaration, added that the record for hottest day ever was broken on three separate days. However, Omar's tweet was met with skepticism and was tagged with a Twitter community note casting doubt on the claim. "What was the temperature of the globe at 12pm GMT on July 1st, 116,539 BC?" former White House adviser Stephen Miller responded.

Not to minimize the heat in other parts of the US or the world, but I live in Ohio and we haven’t seen 90 degrees all summer. The temperatures have been in the low to mid 80’s.
It's been cool here in Manitoba too. We've had cooler summers but after the awful heatwaves we got in May I thought we were in for a scorcher of a summer. Lots of small showers keeping things cool here but our ditches are still dry as a bone because it never rains quite long enough.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and do a lot of gig work where I'm driving around in my older model car...it's bad. Real bad. Like, the A/c is on full blast and I've got an evaporative cooling towel around my neck and I still sweat just sitting in the car. I used to work in a corporate setting in a cubicle farm, so this is a new experience.

But the more I hear the mass media stress over and over and over again just how very terrible this supposed man-made condition is, how so very "dangerous " it is, the more I hear them dance around the edges of proposing "climate lockdowns", kind of feeling out how the public may or may not be receptive to the idea...it actually makes me stop feeling sorry for myself and WANT to suck it up and get back out there and earn money.

But yeah, summer in AZ is simply awful; everyone who has the means to flees Phoenix for cooler temps elsewhere and I'm very, very much looking forward to the AZ "winter".

Honestly, I couldn't do it. My ideal summers are the ones most people even up here hate -- low 20s Celcius and breezy. Lately, I have wondered what it would be like to leave Canada and head to somewhere freer like Florida or Texas but I think I would die. I would rather hunker down by the fireplace when it's minus 40 than install 15 a/c units and drain the grid in the heat.

I would do anything possible to prevent and defy climate lockdowns. We're kind of stuck in a remote, rural location. But I know we'd test the limits as much as we can. We're within walking distance to church but I'd still drive in bad weather. Thankfully, Canada proved to be somewhat ineffectual at enforcing their tyrannical decrees.
