I don't mean to come across as a 'behavior nazi' but ...

I really think it is inappropriate and disrespectful for anyone, but Christians especially, to use phrases like "OMG" or anything similar. I know, I know ... "but I substitute 'gosh' for God, so it's not the same." Yes, it is the same. Scripture says to 'let your yes be yes and your no be no." God's name is holy, we need to honor that. So, please, let's not denigrate the Savior to the point where He is just an exclamation for emphasis. There are plenty of other phrases to use. Eliminate "OMG" in your speech and your texts.

Heaven forbid?

When it comes to exclamations, most of us are stuck with Anglo-Saxon.

And it is not so much what we say - that affects the hearers and IS important,

but what our heartfelt intent is - that affects our relationship with the Spirit.

Rats, Wow, Whoa, and Arrrg! appear to be the most generic of exclamations. If you need help finding others, read Peanuts,
Or better yet: PSALMS.

But more importantly, think about what you are really saying. Where is your heart leaning?

Even Curse You Red Baron! is telling of a heart that may be yielding to uncontrolled anger.

I’ve been recently convicted about this as I tend to use substitute words. It’s no different than saying the actual word because in your heart your still cursing, but filtering it with “gosh”, “heck”, “darn/dang”

Oh oh ouch!! @Dave_97 ...oh my brother, you stepped on and mashed all my toes!!
I love to say *dang*...but I promise I don't mean it as a curse word.

We had an Asian Dr at our hospital who spoke perfect English. When she got mad (frequently) or frustrated (more frequently) she would yell out *Ding Dong Baloney!!!* I still say that sometimes.

I agree with you @RonJohnSilver about OMG. I don't like that. I do say say Oh my goodness.
Or Good Grief.

You are stepping on my toes too!!♡♡

Maybe when we get in any kind of tither we should just sing the Lutheran: Kyrie or the Gloria Patri.

Kind of a profound way of stating its not about me, I need mercy and should be merciful, AND remember : GOD Is In Control.

I hate any type of taking God's name -- it's jarring and extremely offensive. I don't get too bothered by other words, (my dad wasn't a Christian, even he wouldn't say God's name-- however a lot of other stuff came out) but the OMG phrase REALLY bothers me along with our Lord's name.

The reason it's become so widespread is our culture has changed from largely Christian to a non Christian or post Christian culture where God's name especially Jesus's name is used as a swear word.

When you ask them why, why not Buddha, or Mohammed they don't have an answer or a clue.

Of course that is because Satan doesn't mind the false gods. Just the God of the Bible, and His Son.

Well said athanasius.

Matthew6:33

Withstand in the evil day. Eph 6:13
I am guilty of using gosh. It just comes out sometimes. I don't like it. I also have an issue with anger and other things. Before Jesus, I used to curse like a sailor and use omg all the time. It was like a miracle when it stopped 'overnight' - really an act of God to tell the truth.

I do get offended when I hear Jesus or God being used as a curse.

I usually say to the user something like:

'Praise Him'

'Why do you call on the God you don't know?'

'There is only one name in heaven in which you can be saved'

The last two are rather great for impact if the party is even aware enough to hear. Most are oblivious.

What about expressions such as “Holy Cow” and “Holy Smokes”?

I knew a guy who used to say “Holy Mackerel” a lot, and I found it funny, for some reason.

And “Holy Toledo”. Where do they come up with these stupid expressions? I’ll have to look it up.

Yet, only God is holy, so those types of expressions are not acceptable, either. It’s trivializing holiness.
