House Republicans vote on bill to abolish IRS, end income tax
While the bill submitted to the House says it is meant "to rescind certain balances made available to the Internal Revenue Service," the full legislation hopes to abolish the IRS and income tax.

Republicans in the US House of Representatives voted on Monday to abolish the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and replace income tax with a national sales tax. The move was made by newly-elected US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy as part of the concessions he was forced to make to several Republican holdouts who refused to vote for him, which had resulted in a deadlock in voting for a new speaker 15 times.

I would prefer a flat 10% tax on income. I think a consumption tax is a bad idea.
Only problem with that is that there would always be ways to hide income. I think the sales tax would be best because it is paid on what each person spends.
Of course no matter what our government can always find ways to reward the favored. I'm afraid that God will have to smack this nation good in order to get an honest for the people government.

Sales tax does sound workable, but I do like PA where normal - raw good food and other necessities are not taxed.

There will be oodles of arguments against taxing basic necessities but taxes may need their own table.
Yachts buyers can afford a lot more than SS recipients who just want oatmeal and a winter coat.

Before the wars there was no income tax. The government was able to run on just taxing items people bought. The income tax was supposed to be removed after the first world war (I think), but it wasn't because the government got greedy. If our government was responsible and stopped giving themselves raises and giving our money to other countries (which will never happen), there is no reason it could not run by just a reasonable tax on what people bought.
I read somewhere that a person works twenty years just to pay the income tax imposed on them.

render unto Caesar or whoever is on the latest quarter.

Fed income taxes typical 10 to 15%
OASDI+ Medicare 7.62%
Self Employed additional 7.62%
State/local Pa varies by school district about 7% max

Roughly 25% is income tax plus all the other taxes property, sales, fuel...... yea, they'll their money back somehow.

There are just as many ways to hide consumption $$ too. Some folks in countries with consumption taxes (known by many different names) are quite adept at it.

Once we're transitioned to 100% electronic payments in whatever form that ultimately takes it'll be more difficult to hide transactions and their correct amounts to govmints.

The problem is this will end up being added to the income tax rather than replacing it. Until there is some fiscal accountability by the federal government I don’t think they deserve more of the hard earned money of the American citizens.

Bingo! That's the primary reason why I'm against the Federal govmint considering a new tax. At the end of the day it'll just be another layer of taxes on all the other layers of taxes that already exists.

I love the plan to get rid of IRS! They are a bag of trouble! We’ve been on their list for years because we owed tax! And have more than paid them back!

You can’t reach them by phone, tax advocates also are worthless nincompoops! They don’t want to help taxpayers, they want all the money you have.

Opposite experience with IRS. They have been friendly and helpful.

DoL Dept of Labor is a different story, but basically depends on the executives in office.
When GOP, they are nice and often helpful,
but when SOCIALIST, employers are the most evil entities on the planet.

I generally don't vilify the IRS. They do what D.C tells them and that means Congress, Senate, and POTUS.
We don't need public disclosure of their tax returns, just a picture of their home(s) and what's in their garages/driveways will tell us whose pillaging the Public.

My experience with the IRS has been positive. Last year my refund was late in coming so I logged in to my account on their website to see what I could see and it appeared that they hadn't received my return. So I sent them another with a cover letter explaining that I sent my return in in early March. The same day they received that 2nd one I received my refund with a little interest. They must have found my original return and instead of dismissing it they acted honorably and did right by me.

There have been 2 or 3 years when they found small mistakes I'd made and upon investigation I agreed with them, and everything was made good. One year I disagreed with their finding, sent them documentation as to why, and they agreed with me... matter over.

One of my brothers is an accountant. Has his own pretty good sized firm. He doesn't have much of anything good to say about the IRS. I imagine things get complicated when you're working with loopholes and what not for corporations... there the fault lies with our politicians, not with the IRS nor accountants.

Think about it; if you have a savings account or other interest earning account you get taxes every year for the interest!
One thing before you vote for any member of Congress is find out what things they want to pass and most of all, what part of the twilight zone will the money come from.
