    Horoscopes
    By Dennis Huebshman

Before getting into the subject of Horoscopes, let me first give you God’s take on the subject. First, dictionary definitions:

Cambridge English Dictionary: a description of what is going to happen to you based on the position of the stars and planets at the time of your birth.

Miriam Webster: a diagram of the relative positions of planets and signs of the Zodiac at a specific time (such as at one’s birth), for use by astrologers in inferring individual character and personality traits, and in foretelling events of a person’s life. (All Emphasis is mine)

Deuteronomy 18:10-12, “There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or is a sorcerer (11) or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer, one who inquires of the dead; (12) for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.”

Deuteronomy 4:19, “And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun, moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you will be drawn away and bow down to them, and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the people under the whole heaven.”

Leviticus 19:26, “You shall not eat flesh with the blood in it. You shall not interpret omens or tell fortunes.”

Isaiah 47:13-14, “You are wearied with your many councils; let them stand forth and save you; those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. (14) Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. No coal for warming oneself in this, no fire to sit before.”

Micah 5:12, “And I will cut off sorcerers from your land, and you shall have no more tellers of fortunes.”

1 Chronicles 10:13-14, “So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and consulted a medium, seeking guidance. (14) He did not seek guidance from the Lord. Therefore, the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David, son of Jesse.”

Jeremiah 27:9-10, “So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your fortune tellers, or your sorcerers who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon.’ (10) For it is a lie that they are prophesying to you, with the result you will be removed from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish.”

Galatians 4:9-11, “But now that you have come to know God, or rather be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? (10) You observe days, and months, and seasons, and years. (11) I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain.”

Zechariah 10:2, “For the household gods utter nonsense, and the diviners see lies; they tell false dreams and give empty consolation. Therefore, the people wander like sheep; they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd.”

Deuteronomy 18:14, “For these nations which you are about to dispossess, listen to fortune tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you to do this.”

Astrologers in the Bible also known as “Chaldeans”, were part of a king’s circle of so-called “wise-men”, who practiced divination. The word for astrology in the Hebrew language literally means “divining the heavens” It’s the act of foretelling future events or revealing secret knowledge by means of signs and omens or other supernatural events. Before asking Jesus to be my Lord and Savior forever, and before I actually read the Bible for myself, I kept up with my “Daily Horoscope” in the local newspaper. Though I never really took it as “gospel”, there were times I strongly wished my fortune, as told, would come true. It seemed harmless at the time.

Then, after studying God’s word from cover to cover, I was enlightened as to just how crafty and convincing satan can be. After all, he started deceiving mankind in the Garden of Eden with one simple question, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1)

While I listed a few Biblical references here, there were literally hundreds to choose from; going from Genesis all the way through Revelation. If it wasn’t a real issue, why would God devote so much of His “Love Letter” to us about divination and fortune telling?

Some will look at this message and say Horoscopes are harmless; however, I have known people in the past that based their total daily activity on what their Zodiac sign gave them as their daily direction. Yes, some people can look at Horoscopes as a source of amusement. They don’t see any problem at all. However, satan doesn’t need much of an opening to pull someone’s attention away from the Heavenly Father. Playing with snakes may be fine for a while, but eventually one will get bitten. Just ask Eve!

People have sent me messages on social media and in emails offering to give me a “free” reading of my Zodiac chart. I politely decline, and if they persist, I will block them from further contact. I do not go to palm readers, mediums or any other source of occult practices.

My Jesus told me and you that He is the only Way, Truth and Life, and the only way to the Father. (John 14:6) I go to Him in prayer often, and ask Him for direction and Hope. He’s available around the clock, every day, and never too busy to listen. Sometimes, I mentally just ask for His help, and in only a few words. He already knows what we need. If we keep our focus on the Son of God – who is God (John 10:30) – we can never go wrong.

If we ask with good motives (James 4:3), God will hear our prayers and supply our needs (not greed’s). We do have to realize that sometimes, for whatever reason only known to Him, He will say “No”. This should not be taken as a sign of rejection, but through His love for us, He knows our needs better than we do. The closer we get to our Savior, the more we learn about how “temporary” this life is, and how long eternity will be. He wants us to be with Him forever, but leaves it up to us to ask.

Satan loves to use anything he can to come between us and the Father. He knows his eternal destination, but wants to take as many of us with him as he can. He will use every form of trickery and deceit possible, and is the king of liars. He will tell you, “There’s plenty of time to accept Jesus later”, knowing full well we are not guaranteed another hour on this earth. He uses false prophets to say, “There’s many ways to heaven, even without Jesus”, knowing John 14:6 is there. Satan does know the bible, but twists the meaning, as do many false preachers do today.

Others are, “There’s no Hell”, “God’s abominations are Old Testament stuff, and not relevant today: and of course, the one given earlier, “Did God really say?”.

Joshua knew the true Lord God Jehovah, and had the absolute right attitude. Joshua 24:15 tells us he told the Israelites to choose who they would serve, but he and his family would worship the Lord.

You have the same choice to make; Jesus or satan. There are no other options. Also, we do not know the day or hour when Jesus will call His church (all believers) home. Tomorrow could be too late. Think about it; call on Jesus today; ALL who do so will be saved. (Acts 2:21 and Romans 10:13).

    Maranatha!

Before becoming a Christian I used to read my horoscope every day didn't think much of it but still read them for a laugh, after becoming a Christian I stopped immediately, it wasn't for a few weeks I realised that I'd stopped not read them ever since and that's over 30 yrs ago praise God.

After we come to repentance and ask Jesus to forgive us our spirit man comes more alive to the things of God and we get cleansed of things that hinder our walk. Some things may drop off of us quickly while others take more time. My mom read horoscope everyday , I used to read mine off and on , after I got saved the church I attended taught it was divination and a sin, so I quit reading it( mine was never right) . Many other things were cleansed from my life, smoking, excessive drinking, gambling, swearing (dad was a sailor) and the list keeps growing and I keep asking the Lord to cleanse me and show me what needs to change , He is so good and faithful.

A good friend of our family was a devout, Jesus believing Catholic. She also went to a psychic regularly.
Personally I think they are charlatans and con artists.
I used to debate an avid atheist about evolution and I found out she believed in reincarnation.
Some great thinker in the past said humans are not rational but instead are rationalizing. I guess rationalizing is easier than being rational.

My sister practices no belief at all except Karma, will not accept what Jesus did on the cross, says she believes in God but also dabbles in witchcraft and is SO into horoscope stuff has to buy everything she sees at a checkout. I asked her how she expects to get into heaven and all she ever says is she is not worried. Last year she emailed me and asked what is so great about my life, if I could list the top 10. So I gave her about 20, many are just promises from God to us and many on how my life is changed, saving grace, etc. well she has not contacted me since, mainly because I told her you can not believe fully in God and also horoscopes/karma and the occult.

:ohno Horror scopes....lies meant to enslave one in fear or false hope and distract from the One Who truly knows the future and provides our needs.

I was very chagrined to see a psychic place near our neighborhood pop up. It troubled me greatly and I began to pray that it would close down, that the owner would instead come to Christ as well as all the clients, and that God would cause the "future telling" to come to nothing.

I don't know what exactly happened but within about 6 months the place shut down and was transformed into a used car place. Praise God, He heard my prayer (and perhaps the prayers of others)!

Even when I was a non believer, I knew horoscopes was rubbish. Its just another tool of the dark one in his attempts to divert many from our Lord and Savior.

Exactly just another trap of Satan to draw people into darkness! The :biblegives us all the answers we need to know. Anything such as psychics, tarot cards, etc is deception from the dark side.

My 19yr old told me the other day she occasionally looked at her horoscope....when I quoted scripture to her, she said the horoscopes weren't what those scriptures spoke of, because the derivation of horoscopes was some guy who (blah, blah, blah, and I can't exactly remember what she said), but she said the creator of horoscopes was doing it for fun, and that's all horoscopes were is, for fun.
Im glad she doesn't use these things in her life but so discouraged that she won't take leaving them alone serious.

Yes, reading horoscopes can be fun, playing with Ouja boards too, and seeking to talk with the dead also.
Even messing with Gods’ word is fun for some as well.....
Only the end won’t be as funny, when they come face to face with the One that forbade all those things.

Satan loves to make us think his "toys" are harmless and fun. Before you know it, he has you hooked. For any loved one who is hooked, pray the Holy Spirit will enlighten them.

First of all, I love the Lord and His Word is engraved on my heart and soul... I do know my "sign", I don't, however follow or read horoscopes because I really do believe it's all a bunch of hogwash.... That being said, I somehow stumbled across several lame articles about how Virgos and Aquarius are not "compatible signs" and there was a long train of comments after it by dozens of people who agreed because of personal experience..... Well, I'm "aquarius" according to these "signs" and my boyfriend whom I love dearly, is a "virgo"..... I don't know why I would dare let a bunch of deceived people bother me, but they did bother me.... My boyfriend and I have been talking marriage even..... And I'm sorry if I'm rambling a bit. I guess I'm just looking for someone to tell me that's all foolish talk... That we are all just people. Made in the "image of God" with distinct personalities and that we have the freedom to make choices and live lives that are far far removed from these silly zodiac signs...
Thanks everyone and sorry for the rambling.

The tools of the devil have an array of nefarious purposes, and no good purposes. Don't let what you've read bother you, and do put it behind you. The devil likes to sow confusion among other things. Lift your eyes to Jesus and let Him be your influence. Study the Word and pray often so you might grow increasingly stronger in Christ.

Aiyanna, I just want to say,

"that's all foolish talk... That we are all just people. Made in the "image of God" with distinct personalities and that we have the freedom to make choices and live lives that are far far removed from these silly zodiac signs..." :console

Since you are finding this is causing you fear and confusion, it would be good to step away completely from reading this stuff.

God is the one who directs our paths and gives us His help. Take comfort that you can depend on God and truly trust him to show you what you need to know. :)

    Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6

Time and time again, when I've not know what to do or asked God to show me the right path, or even keep me from anything that wouldn't be good for me......let me tell you......HE IS FAITHFUL! All the time. :nod So, you can rest in His care with this. :)

and all satans apples have worms in them too! ....

one of the old time divination favourites for so many ladies was tea leaf reading eh! but the thing about any and all of those "future seekers" is that they are trying to circumnavigate God, it is God who holds and directs our future right down to our last breath and it is his prerogative to tell us.

    To Alyanna:

My daughter, who is 19, actually did a study of this horoscope stuff, back to it's origins (she's like a little rocket scientist when she is determined about something). She actually came to tell me about it, and how it was created to entertain some "high up" folk way back when, or some such....anyway, I was so proud of her, thinking back to when I was 19, and for a short time, I read those horoscope things and gave them some merit. As I grew older, and in my relationship with the Lord, I was able to be much more objective about looking at them, and I realized pretty quickly that they were very often "wrong" about me and those I loved, in many ways, and on the daily stuff, at many times.

What keeps horoscopes and such alive is the lost....not those reborn in Christ. The lost are looking for wisdom ...any wisdom apart from the witness in Christ they received, or if they haven't received a witness in Christ, then in their complete state of being lost. I have run across some who call themselves wiccan witches here where I live (at work), and it's just so sad to me that they do all this song and dance to hopefully conjur up something to make them feel better....like they have some of the deep, dark secrets of the world, or some such. There will never be any such, because our Lord is the Creator and only with Him lies all the answers. We should seek nothing outside Him.

So then I get to the scriptures, and I am sure you are familiar with those that tell us to stay away from this nonsense. So, for you, the same must apply as it did for me....either we put out whole faith and hope in Christ to love, strengthen and guide us, or we seek ways outside Him to gleen wisdom, hope and truth. I pray you will settle this matter in your heart and instead of letting this simmer in the back of your head, take your fears, worries and concerns to the Lord and be 100% content with that decision.....which is how your faith will grow in Him and you will not put any stock (faith) in the powers of darkness that are packaged in many ways and presented to us all. This is said with much love from an elder woman in the faith to you, because you are young, as I once was, and struggling with something that I once struggled with...and I found my answer as I grew older and wiser and as my faith developed.

Oh, and this is "off the record" and unsolicited, but as a married person of many years let me tell you this.....I don't care who you marry, your life is going to have ups and downs and so is your marriage. I find that for all married folk that I know, who have chosen to stay married when it got hard, that the #1 thing you need is a commitment to those vows you made to him and him to them, as well. Things WILL come up and it WILL be hard.....if you live long enough with each other. When they did for us, it was our commitment to the Lord and to HIS COVENANT which He gives to us (Marriage) that is more important than whatever we, the married, let come between us. If you go into it with this mindset, and your young fellow has the same, then when hard times come, you will be fine.....and with prayer, perseverance and the will to keep those vows, the bad times will wash away and the good will come again. PLEASE....in a world of such high divorce rates, remember that I told you this, and forget about all that horoscope hogwash.....because nomatter who you marry, real life is going to happen, and it is going to throw you at some point, as it does us all.

Thank you all so much for your thoughtful words of wisdom. I know my trust must always be in the Lord and nothing else... My faith has been a bit battered lately and my defenses are definitely not what they aught to be.
I need to start praying and getting into His Word more again... My boyfriend and I used to pray together all the time, and we'd study the Bible for hours sometimes. We've kind of fallen away from that lately, I'm not sure why. I'm praying really hard that we can both get back into it.

Thank you all again, this is a good wake up call for sure!
