Here comes Ike!

Fox News is talking Ike to be HUGE!!! Again, we are grabbed by God's attention. I'd recommend gassing up your vehicles ASAP, as they were just saying gas was being sold at $5/gallon to the stations down there...just what they said on the news...no confirmation. I'm praying for you all down there to stay protected.

I am 90 to 100 miles inland from where IKE is to come ashore. Expecting lots of high winds and rain.

Please pray that God will calm the seas.

David in East Texas...

I live just north of Woodville - about 75 miles from the coast... off Hwy 69. Hwy 69 north was CROWDED with evacuees today... the stores and gas stations were packed (gas:$3.67/gal here).

There seems to be a lot of fear :fear in this area... :willy: all along the coast, actually :woah:. Me? I'm not worried. I just believe God will take care of me and my family; I also pray :prayer for a big huge wall of protection around about me and the property here. A'in't nothing coming through that wall except maybe a little wind and rain! :thumbup

Of course, I don't live right on the coast either... so I highly encourage people to walk with wisdom and don't get stupid NOR fearful! :willy:. For Christians... just walk out on the Word of God and claim the promises that He has given us and made available to us by way of the completed work of Jesus Christ.

The "birth pangs" are growing in intensity and in frequency. This need not be a time of high stress and anxiety... think of times like this as an opportunity to see the power of God, and the LOVE :hug2:eek:f God in action!:yeah:

Prayers are always welcome, of course... that's what God's Word says to do... pray for others in the family of God. Especially pray :prayer for the church leadership who are often looked to as a source of strength during times of trouble.

Anyways... Everyone take care... and to paraphrase a great brother in Christ...

I'm not worried 'bout nothing, cause I've been up to the mountain and looked over on the other side...:yeah:

I'll see you in the air!

Psalm 18:2
Ike is aiming at the little coastal town of Freeport where I was born. Galveston is just NE of Freeport and Houston is just inland above Freeport and Galveston. If this monster storm hits, even as a Cat2 they are expecting some major flooding.

At this time as I write this, I am at work in down town Austin, Texas. Last night on the way home from work I noticed that traffic was heavier than usual, and gas lines were getting longer at every station I passed. Here in Austin, the shelters are filling up fast, and the coordination of supplies, blankets and bedding has been crazy. Some people are showing up with nothing and the facilities here do not offer bedding and blankets. All schools and colleges in my area are closing early to avoid traffic on the roads, I work for the State, and we are also closing early as well.

As far as weather conditions here in Central Texas, we should get some wind and maybe some rain, we really do need the rain badly. If conditions worsen where I am at, we may see some tornados.

I agree with Davids post, there does seem to be this sense of panic you see with all the people streaming in. I will post my observations here as the storm comes in. Everyone stay safe and pray!

I'm TOTALLY following your post! In fact...God speaks at the right moment, and today, He has put something HUGE in my head. It has come out of nowhere and He is telling me one word that has given me peace beyond belief. INTEGRITY...I must have it in all I do. Right now more than ever...don't know how things like this become so powerful at times other than God speaking to us. We must be who we say we are and who He wishes us to be. Praying for all of you in harms way...

I'm watching Hurricane Ike on my Weather Channel, from the safety of my Lake Havasu City, AZ livingroom.

I see reporters on Galveston Island's Surfside City, and south of Galveston at beachside. I also see people tempting fate at the formerly mentioned SC seaside, as they stand there watching the high waves roll in. I believe that there's a sea wall there. Down from them, is a pier for which high waves are crashing onto it. It is reported that it probably won't be there too long...but they will be surprised if it's still standing there by the next morning.

They reminded me of that one person being washed away when a tsunami wave crashed into (what's the name of that Asian country & town) way back in, I think 2006/2007, after that humongst earthquake that shook that part of the world?

As for me, I would get out of Dodge VERY fast, and to MUCH higher ground.

I believe the seawall at Galveston is 17ft high, above the normal water line. Ike is 200 miles out from Galveston now, and water is coming over the seawall!

Praying for all in Ike's path :prayer New Orleans seems ok for now. Water is pushing in Lake Pontchartrain but there's no serious flooding. Flood walls, levees & pumps are working well at the present time.

The pictures you may have seen of downtown Galveston where the water was at least a foot high... That is the historic district. Lots of fine old victorian homes are just down the road from that. If Galveston was underwater during the day, while the storm was way off shore, I cant imagine what it will be like in the morning.

It's 10:00pm now here in TX, the eye wall is said to be coming on shore now. As a historian, it pains me to see all those historic structures being harmed or destroyed. As a Christian, im praying for all the soles that decided to stay. I hope everyone will be ok!

Here in Austin, no rain yet, but the winds are starting to pick up. I did speak with a couple that evacuated from South of Houston earlier today. They said it took about seven hours with traffic, to make a trip to Austin, that should normaly take about three hours.

The news is also talking about several leves in Louisiana that have broken. This is one mean storm!
