Gov DeSantis signs bill to teach Florida students about Communism

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that he is signing legislation designating Nov. 7 as Victims of Communism Day in his state.
DeSantis coupled that with the announcement of $25 million in funding for renovations to Miami’s Freedom Tower, which was built in 1925 and once served as a Cuban Assistance Center for those who fled communism.
“Honoring the people that have fallen victim to communist regimes and teaching our students about those atrocities is the best way to ensure that history does not repeat itself,” DeSantis said in a statement.
“Through HB 395 and the funding announced today, we are guaranteeing that the history of those who fled communist regimes and their experiences are preserved and not forgotten by our students. While it’s fashionable in some circles to whitewash the history of communism, Florida will stand for truth and remain as a beachhead for freedom.”

I love it that the left doesn't like DeSantis, and it is all because he takes a stand against their evil agenda. This is a man who has backbone and guts. I admire people who does the right thing, and doesn't care about being a people pleaser having everyone like you. If you are doing the right thing, there will be those who are against you because you don't believe the way they do.

My sister and I went to the same high school in Florida she graduated in 78 and for her to graduate she was required to take a history course of Americanism vs. Communism. At one time I still had her textbook from that class.

I started at the school in 79 the class was optional, it was no longer a required class to graduate. Since I was in the vocational school program I was only required one American history class and that class wasn’t a option for me.

In high school I took World History, American History, and Government, so I learned about Communism in both World and American History. I remember my absolute favorite teacher telling us in American History class, circa 1977-78, that technically the United States had won WWIII over Russia because we could blow the world up 14 times more with our nukes than the Russians. I'm not so sure this is true anymore.
