God is Still on the Throne

Proverbs 21:1, “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases”

Revelation 5:13, “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: ‘To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, forever and ever”

I would like to share with you today another old hymn that many of you have probably never heard of. That was written by Kittie Louise Jennett Suffield or Mrs. Frederick W. Suffield. She was born September 16, 1884, in New York City. She was a very talented musician and singer. After marrying Fred Suffield, she and her husband were traveling evangelist, and sometimes worked with George Beverly Shea. She died in Los Angeles, California on October 23, 1972 and is buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, California. I trust will enjoy this great old hymn, which essentially speaks about God is on the throne and He is still in control of the affairs of this forsaken world that we call earth.

Have you started for glory and Heaven?
Have you left this old world far behind?
In your heart is the Comforter dwelling?
Can you say, Praise the Lord, He is mine?
Have the ones that once walked on the highway
Gone back, and you seem all alone?
Keep your eyes on the prize, for the home in the skies;
God is still on the throne.

God is still on the throne,
And He will remember His own;
Tho’ trials may press us and burdens distress us,
He never will leave us alone;
God is still on the throne,
He never forsaketh His own;
His promise is true, He will not forget you,
God is still on the throne.

Burdened soul, is your heart growing weary
With the toil and the heat of the day?
Does it seem that your path is more thorny
As you journey along on life’s way?
Go away and in secret before Him
Tell your grief to the Savior alone;
He will lighten your care, for He still answers prayer;
God is still on the throne.

You may live in a tent or a cottage,
Unnoticed by those who pass by;
But a mansion for you He is building
In that beautiful city on high;
It will outshine the wealth and the splendor
Of the richest on earth we have known;
He’s the architect true, and He’s building for you;
God is still on the throne.

He is coming again, is the promise
To disciples when He went away;
In like manner as He has gone from you,
You will see Him returning some day;
Does His tarrying cause you to wonder,
Does it seem He’s forgotten His own?
His promise is true, He is coming for you;
God is still on the throne.

Further thoughts:

As God was able to force Babylon’s ancient king Nebuchadnezzar to worship him, there is no ruler on the earth today who is immune to God’s authority. Ephesians 5:16 says, ”...redeeming the time because the days are evil”. My beloved, evil days are days of opportunity. The more evil our culture becomes (we are seeing that today), the more opportunities there will be to share the gospel message . God controls human history - permitting the rise of nations, determining their geographical boundaries, and orchestrating their fall - so that men and women will “seek the Lord” (Acts 17:26-27).

History is “His story” of providing salvation for a lost world and pointing people to the Lord Jesus Christ. Even the forces of evil are used in such a way that “all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the LORD, You along” (Isaiah 37:20). God may hold back His judgment for a time, allowing evil tyrants to have their day, upsetting people’s well ordered lives, presenting them with dilemmas beyond their understanding. Evil brings pain, but it is the genius of God to bring good out of evil (Romans 8:28).

Prayers by God’s people really do change the world because God the Lord Almighty is in and has always been in control. 2 Chronicles 7:14 puts it this way, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” He is God; He is the King of kings! He is the Lord of Lords. He is the Ruler of Rulers and the lawmaker supreme. Every government answers to him, and every person will do the same.

Therefore, evil times are not to be feared. They are times of unparalleled opportunity. That’s way we must make the most of them. I will leave you with these words penned by a Christian musician: “God is in control, though Godless men conspire, His will unfolds, though mortal man is sometimes left to doubt, His ways are higher than our ways, and even through the fire, Take heart and know, God is in control.”

It’s impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible

Thank you for your comment. I prefer the old hymns over the chorus and new Christian hymns of today.
