Getting in Shape

I ran my race. It was only the sciatic (very painful) causing issues during the run. Of course, that made it seem like hip and hamstring issues. I'm gonna have to hang up my running shoes for a while. I've ordered some compression shorts to try and the compression sleeves didn't work out for me with my current condition... they may have been a little on the tight side. This 5K was up and down the Cheyenne runway. It was fun. Very flat and you could see the whole race the whole time. Afterwards I was able to grab a free burger.
How is your sciatic? Did you take time off from running?

Yes. I jogged a slow 2 miles yesterday as a trial. I hope to do the same today. My left knee bothered me yesterday. Until now my knees had been the one body part that has held up... guess it was only a matter of time. With it getting cooler I'll be moving my jogs from first thing in the morning to later in the day. Today my knee didn't complain. The sciatic let me know it was still there, and the hips remain stiff. Hopefully I can continue to at least run 2 miles...

Praising my Savior all the day long!
My doctor took some xrays last week and said my pain in my groin is from my outside left hip, lots of arthritis/scarring and some deposits, also a tendon issue on left foot, I can still walk but no speed .
UPDATE! My Dr. prescribed PT and have been going 3 days a week(2 weeks now) for 45 min./day, doing lots of interior/exterior hip muscle exercises, some with added weights and This week I actually see some progress, especially in foot/tendon pain, knee pain and hip pain. tendon pain in left foot was so bad at times I hated wearing any socks, another few weeks and I may feel even better. Lots of lactate in muscle groups from the exercises pushing muscles I have not used for years. They have showed the best way for me to stretch sore front/top of knee muscles after doing squats/lunges and sidesteps with stretch bands on ankles. Best stretch for me is to lay on my stomach with a looped nylon strap between toes/ankle and pull the strap by hand slowly over my shoulder and and get it tighter and tighter to a point where I just hold it steady for 20 seconds, pull the strap tighter and hold another 10 second, then repeat for 3 times, each leg, this really works for me. Probably be doing PT for another month, and have 4 exercises to daily at home, the athlete in me Lives, it's ALIVE :lol

Rubbish !!! Since when does that stop a marine LOL !!!!!
To put old Sally in perspective- I timed myself today doing 50 non stop pushups. I thought I could do them in 30 seconds, but it took 35 seconds. Sally is only a 30 pushup challenge, but it takes 3:30 mins to complete with no breaks, chest cant hit the ground. It took me 35 seconds to do 50, but when your 35 seconds in to Sally, your only on pushup number 6o_O

Is your chest supposed to touch the ground when you d push ups ? I've always done them where my chest is barely touching the ground.

Im still trying to run 3 miles in under 24 minutes. Today, on the track I did 1.5 in 11:49, but decided today was not the day for the next 1.5. Still, I felt good, breathing was mostly in control, and I also felt a little of my age…. I should lose weight to help me run faster, but I like being between 178-181, it helps keep my weight room activities at a respectable level.

Whats your best 100 and 200 meter times this year?

You know that 1.5 sesh you did on the track could count or be your equivalent of a "speed session" and could help you achieve that 24 minute mark.

I haven't opened up my season yet, i'll open it up early November with a 200m and see what i can pull out as i'm still finishing a strenghth phase of my training block.

I think if I dropped, or cut back on lifting, I could run faster. The problem is I enjoy lifting as much as running, so Im going to do both as long as Im physically capable.

It depends on whether you're lifting heavy , a lot of elite distance runners lift weights despite their physical appearance

Hows the running? You mentioned you might start doing so weight lifting in a gym, have you started that?

Im always thinking that my turn is coming for some type of injury. I have altered my training routine every few years to try to make it less stressful on these old bones. It wouldnt bother me too much to be forced to stop running due to injury, as Im more hooked on that feeling that comes with endurance training, than just the physical act of running. It could be walking, elliptical, or any other means, its all the same for me. As long as I can find a way to elevate my heart rate to approx. 65- 85 percent max for at least 30 mins 4 to 5 days a week, its all good.
