The suspension by Waste Management comes days after a storm swept through the region and many homeowners fired up the lawn mowers for the first time.

"Days after a big storm knocked down branches and many homeowners fired up their lawn mowers for the first time since No Mow May, residents in at least seven metro cities — including St. Paul — have learned their garbage hauler has stopped taking yard waste.
Waste Management confirmed Thursday that it had halted yard waste service in Robbinsdale and Stillwater, due to staffing issues. Later in the day, it added Columbia Heights, Little Canada, St. Anthony, St. Paul and Vadnais Heights to that list, and said more cities could see suspended service.
"Resumption of service is indeterminate at this time and [Waste Management] will be reimbursing residents for this service," company spokeswoman Julie Ketchum said in a written statement.
High demand for drivers with commercial driver's licenses (CDL) — linked to "the rapid expansion of home delivery services, an aging driver population, and a deficit of new CDL drivers" — is behind the staffing shortage, according to Ketchum.
On Friday, Robbinsdale officials said that the city will provide roll-off dumpsters next week as a temporary measure for yard waste disposal. Yard waste can be dropped off at the city's Public Works facility, 4601 Toledo Av. N., from noon to 7 p.m. Monday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday, on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents will need to show a photo ID or a recent bill with a Robbinsdale address."

I hear some cities are limiting it due to lack of workers. Holding job fairs and increasing wages. How much higher can wages go on taxpayers dollars after the big shots gets their pay first.

I worked as a secretary for a local city Public Works department, which included trash collection, in the late 80s. Back then people were always trying to get jobs there because the pay and benefits were excellent. I think the problem is people don't want to do hard work or work at all now days.

Oooh, it's just like a small town where we have to bring our own trash to the dump ourselves. They should import some bears to complete the small town feel. But I guess you're still paying the taxes for the service not being received.

There was a bear out very late at night in the neighborhood recently Actually the back yard Saw it while out with the dog. Fortunately on-leash.
At first, I didn't believe what I was seeing because this is a suburb although close to lakes and swamps and small forests and etc.

My dog was not happy because we went right inside when I picked up the
Glad I didn't see it until after I made sure she was doing #2, or we would have gone in sooner and there would have been "issues"

Some enterprising yard services went around and picked up at least some of the yard waste that was out and not picked up.
"Assuming" they'll compost and mulch with it later.

My husband saw a bear the other day just outside of town. It's been a few years since I've seen one in our area. I saw two last year on our road trip but that was very far away. Last year, the only one I saw in our area was dead at the side of the road.
