Forum “Likes”

Before I joined this forum many years ago, I was a regular poster on the old Rapture Ready Forum. On that forum, there were no “likes” to click on, so when I joined this forum, I did not pay attention nor use the like button. Soon after joining this forum, a few long time members private messaged me, (yes, at one time we did have that capability) and explained how likes work. I understood, and now the reason I use likes is if I read a comment, and agree, then I like it. That way, when others read, they know who agrees, or disagrees with comments.

Over the last 1-2 years, I have noted more members than not dont ever, or rarely hit the like button. IMO, utilizing the like button aides the thread.

No, Im not asking for more likes for me, I already have too many.

Its just my opinion, but I truly believe the like button enhances the conversation.

Thoughts?

I love "likes". It's the perfect dopamine hit. LOL That's only partially true though. I do like to use them to either show agreement or support of the post. Or, in the more informal threads, that I have read it. I never know when to use the "angry" face though. I don't want to make people think I am angry with them when I'm actually upset over the horrible topic being covered. Yet, leaving a "like" makes it seem that I approve of the topic. Tricky, tricky. I tend to stick with "like" just because I know that, for me, seeing an angry face initially sends me into a panic that I said something horrible and off-the-cuff again as I am wont to do.

It is interesting how those simple buttons can have impact. In the past, when everyone was using likes, I was relieved after posting when others would like it, but also second guessed myself when some did not. Either way, it made me study harder, or word my post a little clearer.

Andy I appreciate your thread on this. :)

In the last few years I've been quite busy to where I don't always have time to read whole threads. I stopped liking for a bit lest the ones I couldn't get to came to the conclusion there was something wrong with their post.

This summer, God willing, I'll have more time and hopefully more likes.

I'd say that you and many others are consistently right on in posts. "-)

I like :D the likes :thumbup :thumbupand the other :biggrin choices as well. Someone on here took offense to it that it was a popularity/competition contest. I don't look at it that way. I think it is a challenge, and a nice thing to do. I also think we have better topics than RR and the likes or other emoji's are an added plus. Thanks Andy C for starting this :biggrin "Likes" :thumbup:thumbup thread.

Coming from Rapture Ready without the 'like' capability, I felt it was just a way to make your presence known.
I use it now, but will always prefer to type a short response...it's just me I guess, but I can't help feeling that gesture is more meaningful than a 'like.'
Sorry to disagree with so many...

We're all different personalities, and free to do what we prefer.
My attitude about this came from a thread I saw, maybe on RR, in which I could feell the tears in the poster's words. She was hurt that nobody was responding to her with words, just with emogis (if that's the right word.)
I replied to her, hoping to help her feel better by explaining that was a quick way to show that people had read her post.
I don't recall how she responded to my willingness to pray for her, and reply often.
The one thing I do remember is how hurt she was.
It took me a while after coming here to use the like option.

By the way the person that took offense to the likes or other choices emoji's has not been on here for quite awhile. I am not naming names.

A while back, Chris added two "Thank You" buttons. I'd like to see an "AMEN" added. Can you do that Chris?

You are right, comments are always more personal, but its dependent on what the topic is. On the prayer threads, definitely. Then again, sometimes folks are short on time, and hitting the like button enables one to at least acknowledge your praying for them.

Its definitely a personal choice to use likes, and as most things are, one size does not fit all.
