Country Star John Rich: ‘Threat of Cancellation,’ ‘Step Deeper Than’ Cancel Culture, Silencing Conservative Country Music Artists

Country music star John Rich of Big & Rich told Breitbart News this weekend that the “very liberal” majority of those in the country music industry have become “emboldened” in recent months to push woke leftist ideology publicly in contravention of the views of the majority of the country music audience. Rich said the mere “threat of cancellation” keeps conservative-leaning artists from speaking out, arguing it is actually a “step deeper than” cancel culture — ultimately creating a divide between the country music industry and the country music audience.

“The industry of country is, I would say, I can’t give you a percentage but let’s just say the majority is very liberal,” Rich said in an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel. “They’ve been that way for a long time. It’s interesting that the industry that puts out country music doesn’t really align with a lot of the audience. A lot of folks that listen to country, and again I can’t give you a percentage but I can tell you a majority of the audience probably leans conservative. So you’ve got this gulf, kind of, between the two. Over the years, the industry has never really come out really strongly about their liberal edge that they’ve got until recently, maybe in the past six to 12 months. They’ve started coming out more and more and the problem you get is if you’ve got artists that are conservative but their record label, their publicist, their manager, a lot of the radio stations are being overseen by liberals. We used to be able to make music and get it played and still say what we wanted to say and still get our music played but that’s not really the case now.”

“A lot of my fans will ask ‘hey John why don’t we see other country artists who we assume are probably conservative, why don’t we see them speaking out?’ The answer is they still want to get their records played and they still want to be invited to the award show and get the big tours and those kinds of things so is it cancel culture? No, because they’re not even stepping forward to be canceled. So it’s actually a step deeper than cancel–it’s the threat of cancellation that keeps them from saying anything in the first place. So I think the country music audience now, any of them that are conservative, are starting to see things in the industry and say ‘hold on a minute, that’s not how I thought it was or what they thought about our country or our culture.’ But now they’re seeing that is how they feel about it so it’s a really interesting gap between who’s promoting the music and who’s listening to the music at this point,” he said.

Trump's lawsuit against the social media giants is very important for America. The 1st Amendment is riding on this as the deep state is using corporations, schools, etc., to silence all opposition.

This infestation is deep, wide, and vast. It is going to worsen and worsen too. I think many who are in retirement years or soon approaching are figuring they can side step it somewhat but this sin fest of attacking conservatives, Christians, and good people empowers the ragers and definitely limits or shuts down many others. I'm certainly intimidated by them from a worker/employer perspective and not sure just how their reach could go beyond that. The bullying before the NWO and the AC may pale in comparison but still is very serious and concerning.

Yes--they are using the power of the purse to silence all opposition. Those who belong to the world, which is basically ALL of the entertainment industry (including music, films, media, professional sports etc.) are much more concerned about their own personal wealth than they are about freedom. Why should they care about the freedom of the nations' peoples when they have no freedom themselves? They are slaves to the system--granted, living in gilded cages. But, gilded or not, they are still cages.

At one time I would have bet anything the fans would raise heck if anyone tried to cancel their favorite singers. Now I'm not too sure. It is becoming more apparent everyday what a bunch of scared sheep we as a nation have become. Their plan is working, and we have no plan!

I foresee bread and soup lines soon, maybe some old newspapers wrapped around our feet to try and stay warm. Huddling around a trashcan fire. What do these stupid millennials think is going to happen? That once Commie/Social ism is installed everyone will be treated equal? That all past mistakes will be made right and all evil goes away? No, the "ISMs" will seize all monetary assets, real estate, and guns, assume control over every detail of your life, and pretty much make your life miserable.

Sadly, what is passing for "country" music today is more akin to what was referred to in the 70s as Southern rock and pop. IMO, real country music spans from Roy Acuff to Alabama. The people I know who are listening to today's "country" music are mostly Millennials, who are as woke as the singers and groups themselves. I no longer listen to current country stations, but oldies stations for rock and country music when it was rock and country. The few times I have heard modern "country" songs, I always think that Roy Acuff would never have let them sing at The Grand Ole Opry. :nope

Exactly. For reasons I don’t understand there has been the thought among leftists in this country that the reason communism hasn’t worked out before in other countries is that they didn’t go about it properly. This is a system that leaves the bulk of the people living hand to mouth and with nothing of worth. The powers that he have all the wealth, luxury etc they want. Look at Cuba. After 62 years of living in a communist society they are standing up and fighting back. We need to learn a lesson from them. We are sadly on the road to becoming communist.
